Q: I bought a VTech 2.4G wireless phone. Since then my laptop (with WiFi 802.11b) can not connect to my wireless router near the cordless phone base. Is this a problem coomon? Is there anyway to determine whether I return this one and instead get a 900Mhz?

2.4GHz phones is one of the many ?senseless? products that are brought to the market so the people will keep buying. Together with marketing it works very well to drain our pocket, and interfere with our Wireless.

If you would have the instrument that analyzes the transmitting signal you would find that there is interference.
The question is how much?
Every transmitted signal has a bandwidth. E.g. the transmission is not 2.4GHz, but a band bellows the central point and above the central point the further you move from the center the less is the signal, switching channel makes it functional by reducing the interfering signal.
However since the channels are very close it is still there ?interfering?, and probably reduces the quality of the Wireless Network.

Most of those people are clueless (no offense to the BB people here on the forums) but my BB people told me a 2.4GHz phone wouldn't interfer with my MR814. Which it did, only after I found out later.

Getting back to the original topic, phone interference with wireless routers is simple to address. Just change the channel on either the phone or the router and you should be fine.

There is no solid answer to this question. I have the same router and 2 2.4GHZ phones w/ no problems. If you experience any difficulties as others have said change the channel on your phone.

Re:It's obviously easier to just buy a different frequency phone if you're making a purchase decision. I have two 2.4ghz phones, and I just changed the channel on the wireless router to fix any interference.
