2.4G Cordless phones interfere with my WiFi network [wireless router] [vtech]

Q: I bought a 2.4G wireless phone. Since then my laptop (with WiFi 802.11b) can not connect to my near the cordless phone base. Is this a problem coomon? Is there anyway to determine whether I return this one and instead get a 900Mhz?

So in that case, I would have to disagree.? Yeah using 900MHz, I notice that when ever someone calls me I do not understand what there are saying, may be I should switch. j/k ;) ;) ;) .

2.4GHz phones is one of the many ?senseless? products that are brought to the market so the people will keep buying. Together with marketing it works very well to drain our pocket, and interfere with our Wireless.

========================================

If you would have the instrument that analyzes the transmitting signal you would find that there is interference.

The question is how much?

Every transmitted signal has a bandwidth. E.g. the transmission is not 2.4GHz, but a band bellows the central point and above the central point the further you move from the center the less is the signal, switching channel makes it functional by reducing the interfering signal.

However since the channels are very close it is still there ?interfering?, and probably reduces the quality of the Wireless Network.

I have a Netgear MR814 Wireless (802.11b) Router which works great. I am thinking about getting a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone, but the sales people at both CC and BB told me the the phone will interfere with wireless network. Is this true or can I just change channels on router if there is a problem?

Or should I stick with a 900 Mhz or 5.8 Ghz cordless?

Most of those people are clueless (no offense to the BB people here on the forums) but my BB people told me a 2.4GHz phone wouldn't interfer with my MR814. Which it did, only after I found out later. :(

The 2.4 GHz phones also are superior in range than the 900.

Getting back to the original topic, phone interference with wireless routers is simple to address. Just change the channel on either the phone or the router and you should be fine.

Re:Changing the channel makes it working as oppose to not working before.

However the bandwidth that you get is probably reduced.

There is no solid answer to this question. I have the same router and 2 2.4GHZ phones w/ no problems. If you experience any difficulties as others have said change the channel on your phone.

Re:Thanks… I changed the chanel on my router, and seems working now.

Re:Just change the channel w/ your phone or w/ the wireless adapter settings in your laptop. I have four 2.4ghz phones ( & AT&T) in the house & my wireless is not affected in any way.

Re:I had the same problem too. I ended up getting a 900Mhz phone. -John
