Q: This would be a stupid question, but I was curious, if I had two network cards installed is running Win 2k, and each had its own IP address of a router connected to a DSL line, it is possible for different network browsing different sites ? Or is there a way to combine the two lines just to increase speed? Im constantly running DU Meter and I always watch my U / L and D / L speeds, and it looks like the D / L is always limited at 160KB/sec, and if I d / l on another computer on the same switch, then my velocity would endanger, but both computers would still equal to 160 KB/Sec.
I just wanted to know if we have two NICs, is there a way to use that to our advantage than it ICS is used as a device?

Re:Ahh! You're right… I completely forgot or overlooked that fact… Thanks for pointing that out to me, but in regards to the other question about having separate nics for separate purposes, you think that'll work?

Your max speed is 1300 kiloBITS per second
Which equals to ~162 KiloBITES
So when you d/l @ 160KBps you are achieving your max throughput.
Remember 8 BITS equals 1 BITE
Also there is some overhead involved with tcp/ip or pppoe.

Is it possible to have two NICs, one for daily usage such as browsing the internet, d/ling, etc, while the other NIC could be used as an FTP server? or anything that uses a particular port such as networking gaming?? Or is it possible to have one NIC browsing specifically for IE, while the other specifically for Netscape?
If these are stupid way out of line ideas, please say so. Im just really curious and amazed as to how far these babies can go!

I went to dslreports.com, and did all those tests, and basically my max speed was about 1300 Kb/s, but is there a reason that with DU Meter, all it shows at most is 160 KB/sec? or am I being stupid and reading it incorrectly or …?
I really want to test out that theory of having 2 NICs in my computer.. That won't damage any settings later on will it? Or will it cause the computer to crash?

Re:I really Doubt your DSL service is fast enough to utilize 100% of your nics bandwidth. Remeber your nic is rated for 100mps and dsl usually from 600k-1.5mps

Re:I know what you are asking.. and the closest I can think of is something Intel makes. It is a dual channel NIC with load balancing software.
Anyhow, my point is – in theory, what you are saying sounds good. BUT, I think you need some kind of software for this to happen. I know that some older ISDN "modems" did this – they would use one channel until more bandwidth was needed and open the other channel.
