Q: I bought a Buffalo G54 wireless router WBMR today.
I have 2 PCs wired but I see them. They were using ICS before but I got a 360 a few weeks ago, so I want to, but lets leave that out of the equation atm because it is nowhere near the router or both have PC.
I the router setup and the first PC (a general one might say) is connected to the internet fine, but the second PC does not connect, even to the router setup page (the IP address you use in your web browser)
Any ideas ?
Cheers.
Best Answer: Release and renew IP from your laptop…cheap easy fix. Hopefully this works so you don't have to try more complex fixes.
Are you seeing your router when you browse wireless routers from your laptop? You can try to create a new connection to your router. Sometime wireless profiles get corrupt and creating a new connection can re-create or refresh the profile.
Can you connect to your router hardwired to download updated drivers for your wireless card? This helps correct issues alot of the time as well.
Re:Yes, if you were connecting two pcs, without using a switch, the cable had to be a crossover cable. Now that you are using a router, with a built in switch, you need to use regular patch cable.
Re:I have made sure that DHCP is on both at the router and on the PC's, it is.
It's really annoying, the 2nd PC just will not connect to anything when its going through the router. I have also checked that the LAN connections are set tp automatically obtain IP's and DNS's.
One thing I was thinking of is would I maybe need a different cable to go from the 2nd PC to the router? As the one I'm using was the one I was using to connect both PC's on ICS, or does it not matter?
Cheers.
Re:Also, make sure ICS is turned off on the "main" computer, in case that is conflicting with the router's own DHCP server.
Re:Make sure you have TCP/IP set to DHCP(obtain IP address automatically, for both IP and the DNS server) in the network connection TCP/IP properties.
Re:In General you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.
Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer?s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost
Step Two.Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.
Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet
If need to Reinstall; Log to this page it have a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html.
