A program associated with the wrong program, to solve? [notepad format]

Q: I have a multipart file that I had to join a free utility, HJ split. Before doing that I said using Windows Notepad, and now I like these files they are automatically saved in a notebook format to store. Even if I use HJ Split open, they are now only openable in Notepad. Me tried to return to the file type to Windows to tell, but it shows notepad as the program of choice and has no option to reduce them to nothing. Can anyone help?

Best Answer: Excellent start but also Check how much RAM memory she has AND how many programs start automatically when the computer is started, if low on memory and lots of startup programs the computer will remain slow no matter what else you do.

The Tools option of CCleaner will allow you do delete or at least disable startup programs. You can do the same in msconfig.

Otherwise you are doing what needs to be done.

you can also hold down shift or ctrl-shift(forgot which one) and use the "open with" option too, and change it that way

on some files, that little checkbox is grayed out

Re:Go into Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Find file type and select Change for Opens With. You then have the little checkbox that you can deactivate.

Re:Thanks for the reply, that's the problem, I don't want it associated with any program at all. And now I can no longer uncheck the "always use the selected program" box.

Re:right click the file.
go to properties
under the general tab, there is a section near the top that says open with:
click change.
select the program you want to open it with.
