Q: Hi,
I thought
A7N8X
Athlon Deluxe XP 2500 + DDR400 RAM
new Barton
512 cheap case with 300W power supply ~ $ 69CAN – I can not tell what kind, for it is obstructed.
Dropped in
old WD 40GB nVidia GeForce drive
old MX440
old LG CDRW
I port t happens every overclocking.
I ran the Prime95 torture test for one hour with two runs ASUS Probe. It kept telling me that my power was out of reach. The 12V remained above 13.2.
This is not cool is that? Especially because I get a Radeon 9800np soon.
Questions:
1. Do I need a new power supply? What do you recommend?
2. Am I in danger of killing my system if I keep playing it?
3. The bios has the chip is not recognized at first. XP was reporting 1.1GHz. I had to manually in the bios. Is this a sign that my BIOS flashing?
4. I set the 166 to run at DDR400 in the bios. Is this the optimal setting?
Thanks,

Hi I"m new here and I have the Abit NF7-S MB,
and I get a negative -12v Voltage out of range, around -13.28 to -13.50,
is this seriously out of range? my +12V is fine and well within spec, just the negative is a bit worrying?
my case as an Aopen QF50C w/ 300W power supplyWelcome guy
I wouldn't worry about the -12V line. I don't think new PSUs are even coming with a -12V line at all, in fact… they dropped it from the specs for ATX PSU's. Hope that helps ease your mind ![]()

Re:Thanks guys,
I'll grab an Enermax tomorrow.
Is the 350W sufficient to handle the Radeon 9800np I'm putting in or do I really need the 430W?

1) Yes, you should get a new power supply. You should be able to pick up an Enermax 350W for about $65 Canadian.
2) It's a risk, but I doubt it'll kill it
3) No, that's because your FSB was set to 100MHz instead of 166MHz.
4) Yes, because the XP2500+ is a 166MHz CPU, you should keep your CPU and RAM in sync. Unless you decide to overclock…
^ I agree – you are at serious risk and should get a new PSU. Also, I agree 100% with the reccomendation for the Enermax 350W. If you're in the Greater Toronto Area you can get it for $65 at Canada Computers.
If you are going to get an enermax then get the big boy 431 watt unit. It will serve you well when you upgrade components. That is the unit I use.

Re:I also recommend a new high-quality PSU. Not to deter you from that, but realise this:
"Asus Probe = i/expressions/rolleye.gif"
Use a voltmeter if you want to have a known-correct reading of your PSU's 12V, because I'd bet that Asus Probe will still be reading some crazy-talk number when you get your high-quality PSU in there.
