Q: I had problems installing my radeon with the GART drivers so Im formatting would be easier for me to do, because I do not know exactly how to solve the problem another way. Anyways if I format I usually use the Maxtor software, I have a 20 gig Maxtor drive, but this time would only stall the software. So I turned to fdisk, but fdisk only 6 of 20 gigs formatted. Is there anyway I can reformat my whole drive properly? Any help would be appreciated.
Re:There is a bios update for this board, but the thing is that I don't think that is causing problems because my drive used to work on this same board. The only thing that I changed was from a geforce 256 to a radeon, and I reformatted cause windows wouldn't work with all the driver changes. I'll go ahead and try the bios update and see what that does anyway, again thanks for your help guys I appreciate all the responses I am getting.
Re:Chances are your bios does not support that drive. If there isn't a bios upgrade for your motherboard, use the software from Maxtor's website. The one you have might be corrupted. If you cant get their bios overlay software to work on your system, the only other thing you can do is to get a controller card that will handle that drive. Do not try to put in the CHS manually, all you will get is 8.4GB
guy, if there is anything wrong with that drive and it fails their diagnostic utility, you can get a replacement drive cross shipped within 3 days (depending on when you make out the RMA)
Re:as stated above, update your bios. sometimes cmos setup is at fault. try manually entering hd parameters and setting to lba. try using it in diff. mobo(if you have access) if maxtor is at fault. good luck…
Re:have you checked for any newer BIOS update for that board?
Re:I have a tyan trinity 400. Does this mean its probably time to return this drive to maxtor and get a new one? Again thanks for your help.

Re:what motherboard do you have?
the bios seeing 6 GB is NOT a good thing.
Re:Thanks for the suggestions. BTW it only saw my hard drive as 6 gigs in the bios, so what does that mean as far as my hard being able to go back to 20 gigs?
Re:Could check the bios and make sure the hard drive is recognized as a 20gig drive.
Re:try maxtor software to reset your drive to all zeros(if d same with wd softwareif) then reboot with startup disk. a)fdisk not using fat32 apply changes then reboot. b)same as a but use fat 32, apply changes….rest is to you..
