Q: You will notice that the F part has no pins, just flat pads, such as the LGA 775 P4s. Moreover, the pads are much close together than the pins on the 940. Overall size and shape is about the same (compared to 940), but the newer chip has two indents on the top and bottom of the PCB. Thats PCBs and organic substrate instead of the ceramics of the earlier Opterons.

Re:don't think mobo manufacturer would have problem replacing the socket if the pins on the mobo are bent.
Re:I wonder if the future will give rise to mobos with the socket on a riser card? That way you don't have to chuck the whole mobo if you screw up the socket. Just replace the riser.
Re:Great now if break a pin it will only cost you your mobo.
Re:Or $2200 CPU in the case of the high-end Opterons.
Re:Better to bend a pin on a $100 mobo than a $300 CPU.
Re:Neat..I guess. At least server builders wont have to worry about bending cpu pins anymore. I was worried about my 4400, couldn't imagine having to put in a $1k CPU..
