Q: I downloaded the 3.0.17 Debian Woody boot disks and put them on disks. Everything worked fine until I was on the basis of the system to install over the network get a part. It gives me a url (http://http.us.debian.org/debian), and once I press enter it gives me a “malrofmed release file” error, pointing to http://http.us.debian. org: 80/debian/dists/woody/Release. I tried mirror sites, or as ftp.uk.debian.org ftp.ca.debian.org but I got the same error. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Re:<< Did you get it to install?
If not you can install the potato base system. And use apt-get to upgrade it to woody. >>
Yup, just tried a few hours ago and it worked Thanks ![]()

I asked around in the debian channel in irc recently, and they said it was a known bug which they didn't know how to fix yet so I should just keep on trying. So I'll do just that, thanks

Re:<< I was getting the same error when I was installing woody. I don't know why, but yeah, like you I tried different mirrors and I got similar errors;

I had potato installed earlier, but it didn't have XFree86 4.1.0 which is the version that has the Radeon drivers I need

Re:<< Is it looking for the base tar file? >>
No, it is looking for the Release file, which oddly enough is in the right location but still gives an error about it being malformed[/i] >>
Re:It's been a while since I installed….
Is it looking for the base tar file?
Here is pointer to it.
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/current/base2_2.tgz
When I installed I actually downloaded it manually with the *.bin files and showed the installer where they were on my local hd.
Re:I think someone screwed up.
I exeperienced problems updating package indexes, the same problem I guess.
