Any fixes for games on Vista x64? [battlefront 2] [retail copy]

Q: before yall jump on me, I just installed x64 because I have a rather small sample of my work and one of my drives was deceased, in a RAID0, so I had to reinstall anyway!

anyway, I think I probably would have looked before installing Vista x64. some of my older games will not even install it. I have the urge to play and it depends on the second I hit install. there is no fixes or something for this game or others? (

at than Command and Conquer 3 runs

Best Answer: I used to get a lot of adware from popcap games. Try running a program like Ad-Aware to remove all those unwanted cookies.

You can also try the following:
– Defragment the hard drive
– Run msconfig by typing "msconfig" from the run prompt. You can also find it by typing msconfig and searching under help and clicking the link to start it. Once its running it allows you to disable all of the un used programs that run in the background to free up your memory.
– Under your browser go to tools > internet option and click delete cookies.
– Under the start menu, go to accessories > System tools. From here you can run disk cleanup and defrag.

Although the above can all be done manually, I started using Windows Live Onecare which does this all for me automatically every week. You can find any one of several tune-up programs online for a free trial that can do the same thing.

Re:Btw try this,

Should be this week. Though, I can't promise it will solve all of your Vista problems.

I recently upgraded from WinXP SP2 to Vista Ultimate 32 (with 64 bit upgrade for when there's support for it). I had just bought STALKER a few days before and was really getting into it.

Now on my new system (GeForce 8800GTX, 2GB RAM, E6600 CPU, X-Fi Fatality, Vista32) the game crashes to Desktop whenever I save, press ESC or attempt to leave the 'car park' area after freeing Nimble.

—END QUOTATION—

Ok, for those that have STALKER installed on Vista, I have a possible solution for the error where the game crashes to the desktop when saving. Instead of hitting ESC to go to the menu and save or using F6 to quicksave, hit the "~" key. This will bring up the console. Then type "save gameSave" where gameSave is whatever you want the save to be named.

It almost never crashes in all game areas except fairly often in Cordon (i think that's what it's called), the first area. I'm past that area in the story for the most part, so when I have to go back I try to go in and out fast, only saving before and after I enter Cordon.

Re:That last thread a lot of people are having the save crash problem if you read it.

I personally can always save in Stalker with Vista x64, I did have one corrupt saved game.Maybe the game can only handle so many saved files that why I suggested in deleting some, nothing to lose but some old saved files.
Apoppin got it right about Stalker,

as to *other rigs* … i cannot say … i do not know the combination of their HW …otoh i DO KNOW for a fact that STALKER is poorly optimized for many rigs …
… perhaps it just runs without the issues others are experiencing

I don't just follow any suggestion just because "it is an option".
But, thanks anyway.

Then don't bother posting for help then,we can only give you options and suggestions.

Read through all these posts(5 pageshere. (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=31418&st=0))

Don't get too excited. You are not the only one who posts here.

It's more a case of trying to help you ,and you being rude.Anyway I'm done with this thread.

You claimed that this was a game issue. I asked why. If that offends you, ….

I patched the game before starting it.
I can run the game. But, later on (Pripyat), when I attempt to save, the game crashes. This does not happen in XP.

Sounds more of a game problem then Vista problem,
How did you come to that conclusion?
anyway try deleting some of your old save files.

I can load the save files fine! I cannot create a new save file in a stage of the game!
How is deleting save files going to help?
Why would it not happen in XP if the problem is with my saved files?

I had a couple of crashes in the game at a certain point,I deleted some of my save files and that worked for me(they also loaded fine). The game is buggy period, don't believe me go to their forums and see for yourself. You do have "Run as Admin" selected in properties of stalker?

I'm giving you options,if you don't want my help or want to try it fine.

I have trouble with running S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on Vista 64. I have to run it on XP. Anyone else has experienced that, or has a solution?

Stalker runs fine on Vista x64,I have mine set to "Run as Admin" ,also don't tick WinXP SP2 Compatibility mode, did you get the Stalker patch installed too, note its not compatible with old saves.

i'm all up to date MS wise though. that was my first reaction. thanks! :)

Re:Try right-clicking the installer and using Run As Administrator, for starters. Also update Vista at Microsoft Update, since they have compatibility updates.
