Q: Has anyone figured out how long ass load times when using the promise ATA100 controller on an A7V with Win2K to solve? Before I used ATA100 everything was fine once I installed the drivers and enabled the controller during the loading screen the blue meter thing stops moving for about 30 seconds . for a long load time. Anyone know a fix?
Best Answer: First things first.
1. Run your virus protection, to make sure you are not infected with any infections.
2. Click start, all programs, accessories, system tool, disk clean up. Click more options tab, clear old system restore points. Go back to preivious tab, check all options, click okay. (Note: it may take several minutes, to complete.)
3. Click start, all programs, accessories, system tool, disk defrag. This can take 10 minutes to a few hours, depending on how often you run it.
4. Go into add/remove and remove any programs you no longer us.
5. Finally, click start, run, type, msconfig, start up tab, search for all startup item names, Here http://www.processlibrary.com/ The programs run in the background at all times, some of which are not needed to. Once done click applly, okay, yes to restart, Once computer restart, check the small white box, click okay and your good to go.

Re:Cool new drivers worked. Now it only stops for about 1 second. Anyone who needs to do this make sure you have 1.60 Build 25 NOT Build 19.
Re:Disabling it is not an option. I have to use it since I have 7 IDE devices.
Re:Yes. Go to Asus' site and dl the newest driver for the controller—it'll take 30-40 seconds off your boot time.
Re:yeah, in the device manager, disable it. i'm not using an ata100 drive, but an ata66 drive, so i hooked up the drive to the ata66 connection on the motherboard, and disabled the ata100 controller both in the bios and in win2k. i go from power on to opening a program in about a minute. if you've got an ata100 drive, i don't know what to tell you. that's just how it is apparently.
