Anyone recommend a backup utility [backup utility] [file server]

Q: I have a network and would like a copy of certain machines on the file. I would like to use as a syncrohization mode, so once it copies all the files, it will copy only those who have changed.

Anyone a favorite ?

Re:Veritas's backup is quite good. Mopre of a corporate thing though.

Re:yep ntbackup, if you need automated backups simply right some batch file routines for each backup job and setup the event scheduler to run those backup jobs when you want them to run.

Re:NTBackup – do a full backup for starters. After that, do an incremental or a differential every day, whichever one you want. An incremental will only backup files that changed since the last backup (full or incremental), a differential will backup everything that's changed since the last full backup. If you have a disaster, with a differential type backup you would just need the full backup and the last differential to restore. With an incremental, you'll need to restore your full backup and then all of the incrementals in order to recover. That method requires more work for a restore but it the backups are quicker and smaller.

Re:For a complete backup soln. I'd suggest Norton Ghost, but in your case for what your describing NTbackup that comes w/ NT based windows machines would work fine and doesn't cost anything

Re:We use BackupExec on most of our servers, but in your case, it may be a bit overkill (especially in terms of price). NTBackup should work fine for your needs and it's free as it's a part of windows (assuming you're using windows on your fileserver).
