argh! stupid Office 2000 error message! – Fixed [alternate path] [network resource]

Q: Ok, a long time ago I installed the SR-1 patch for Office 2000. Now when I try to install (I want Excel to add) it gives me this error:

The feature you are trying to use change on a that is unavailable at this time.

Click OK to try again, or enter an to a folder containing the installation package (insert huge product ID string here) in the box below.

Then in the box it lists the default path is C: Windows Temp sr1patch

The problem is (or what was in that directory ) is nowhere on my computer. Basically I can not change my setup at all, because it always gives me that error. I can not even remove Office to start again! Does anyone know how can I avoid this?

Re:Nope, its not on the CD anywhere.

It seems that when I installed SR1 it put some files on my hard drive that let it know that I installed it. Somehow they were deleted and now it wont let me do anything to the installation because it cant find them. The Microsoft knowledge base hanst helped much either…

You can change the default path – but I dont know what it should be changed to. Thats the problem, I dont think I have the files that should be in that folder anywhere on my computer. >>

the default path…. isn't that supposed to be the CD? If I remember correctly. OFfice2k install/remove requires the CD. So the path should be the CD. have you tried that yet?
