Australian rock 2.1 's or Boston Acoustics BA4800's? [klipsche] [boston acoustics]

Question: Hi,

I know that this topic has been beaten to death, but I try to make a direct comparison between the Klip Australian PM 2.1 s and get the BA4800 pages 0.

I only have a 2.1 setup, so that the BA 4800 are a 4.1 setup is not really an advantage for me. I will probably end the rear satellites to keep the box because I have no place to put them.

Anyway . All things being equal, which was set up would be better with 2 sats and the sub?

TIA,

Sal

Best Answer: use javascript in your forms page. using the onsubmit, enumerate every field and set the value if null. The code has some spaces in the document.x. ….yahoo doesn't like certain string groupings and truncates it….you will need to remove the spaces

if document.formname.fieldname = ""
{document. formname. fieldname=0}

You can do some more validation too……assuming you don't want negative numbers…..
if document. formname. fieldname < 0
{//Do something here, maybe a messagebox saying no negative number are allowed
//Change the color
document. formname.fieldname. style. backgroundcolor = "yellow";
//Set focus back on the field
document. formname. fieldname. focus();
//prevent the form from being submitted
return false; }

Re:don't have any experience with the BA's, but I do own the 2.1 PM's and I am very happy with them. Sheer loudness is not the only benefit that the PM's have to offer. I think that the quality of the sound is great. Although they are a little pricey, if you are willing to spend up to 2 bills on speakers anyway, then why not? check out the reviews on www.3dSoundSurge.com and on Anandtech if you havent already…all of them consider the PM's to be the top 2.1 desktop speakers that are sub $200. If you aren't going to be using the BA's rear sats then why sacrifice the "sheer loudness" and quality of the PM's?

Re:<< Actually if you split the 2 front channels, you can plug the rear sats into those and have 2 sats for each channel. That should be enough power/clarity for you. >>

You must be a huge fan of Bose then (sound everywhere). ;) Seriously, I would not want to plug the 4 mains in and use them as my main channels. That would give me more sound for sure, but it would really mess with the imaging.

I'm much more into the quality than the sheer loudness.

Re:I mean you can stack the two sats for each channel onto each other. I wouldn't think the space restrictions are that bad… ;)

Re:Have you heard Klipsch Home Theatre stuff? Don't judge the ProMedia's by the HT stuff. Klipsch's HT stuff is great, the PMs are overpriced crap.

Based on my experience with them I would definately use the BA4800 in 2.1 mode over the Promeida 2.1s.

There you go, I gave my opinion of the promedias. Flame away.

Re:I'm not necessarily looking at pure volume or for something to piss of the neighbors. I want the best sound quality for under $200 in a 2 channel set up. I'd certainly go for the BA4800's and box the other two sats if they sound better than the PM 2.1's.

have always had a bright character to them because of the horns and I suspect that these PM's might be the same. are also wonderfully dynamic speakers and great for rock.

I know this is a very personal preference. I'm just trying to get some opinions.

Thanks again,

Sal

Re:Tried them out at a friend's house.
Not at a store.

And no I haven't owned either set, and likely never will.

Re:keep in mind that guy has never owned neither sets, he only tried them out at a store ;)

and no, listening to it at a store and at home is not the same

Re:Ahh fork both, VideoLogic Sirroco Pro.
Louder than the Promedias with the sound quality of the BA4800 ;)

I would take the BA4800 there is no question that the ProMedias can go louder, but I think the BA4800 have a better sound quality.

And you know you don't have to put the rear sats behind you, that's optimal placement, but you can put them beside the front sats and angle them away from you, the sound will reflect off the walls and end up behind you.

It doesn't work as well, but you can get some sense of 3D imaging.

Re:guy, I'll give you my opinion, FWIW, after having used the MicroMedia (now called the BA790, w/ a few minor changes), the BA4800's, and currently the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's.

If you're really interested in a 2.1 setup, you can't do better than the PM's. The BA4800's are more of a neutral speaker, meaning that the sound is flatter, w/o the low lows of the PM's, or the brightness that the PM horn tweeters bring. However, the BA4800's also seem to be missing something that the PM's midrange speaker brings in spades.

There's no mistaking that the BA4800's sound nice, but they can't go where the PM's go, and that's literally ear rattling volume, w/ good sound. You haven't experienced what a set of computer speakers can do until you hear the short THX wave file that you hear at the beginning of THX movies. It will blow your socks off. And, you'll hear things from the PM's that you didn't know existed in songs, if your only exposure to that song is FM radio or commercial cassette.

I noticed in today's Best Buy ad that they have the PM 2.1's for $169, after an instant rebate. Tough to beat for that price.

Re:where is the BA4800 sold!?

Re:This topic has been completely beaten to death.

#1) Do a search. I believe they've been directly compared.
#2) Read the reviews.
#3) Audition them side by side if possible.

If that isn't possible, buy them both on your credit card and return the pair you don't like, Many B&Ms allow this. There is NO way to get a "correct" answer since speaker selection is a personal choice.
