Belkin WEP not compatible with other brands? [netgear router] [positive cashflow]

Q: I bought Belkin router and PC cards on the last positive cash flow-after-rebate deals. I can not make the router with a WEP Giga Fast (Realtek chip) card, nor can I make WEP between my Netgear and Belkin PCCard router.

The PCCard works with the Belkin router, including WEP.
The works with the Giga PCCard Fast and Lucent, including without WEP.

I WEP.
Everything works with Win98 and WinXP clients attempt, using the CD that came with the maps and the latest client software from Belkin. Belkin technical support could not solve the problem and referred me to tier 3 support, but only during the day so I have not said they discussed yet.

All WEP 64-bit.

Has anyone succeeded?

Best Answer: They all work together because they all have to abide by the same standards, kinda like blank CDs or blank floppy disks.

Re:Perhaps the PCCARD version 3 is worse than some other Belkins. I had similar issue trying to get the Belkin to work with Belkin – I had to use passphrase, hex key didn't work.

All my trying included passphrase as well as hex key entry.

Re:I m using both Belkin usb card and pci card with linksys 11b router with 64bit wep and they work fine. There were some problem initially due to the wep setting, belkin card did not use passphrase but required manual setting on the key and key number and I used passphrase on linksys router.

Re:Thanks guy.

I did not try 128-bit WEP, I am glad it works for you. I need the 64-bit.

Re:I am using a crappy Belkin F5D6231-4 with a Gigafast WF741-UIC on a Windows 98SE Machine. The Belkin is used as an access point connected to a Linksys wired router. Features that are enabled on that wireless router include 128-bit WEP, Mac Filtering, and Disabling SSID. Ever since that router was moved to a different location and left plugged-in continuously, it has been much more stable. Either these routers were not meant to be turned on/off or Belkin ships defective cables with their products.

Re:Connections work without WEP. WEP attempts are all 64-bit (my Lucent card doesn't support 128-bit).

Re:1. Same key strength? 64/128bit
2. Can you conenct without enabling WEP?
