Re:I actually have an Alcatel DSL modem that I used with Bellsouth. I have just changed to Telocity (thanks to offering a static IP address) and I really have no use for the modem. PM me if you are interested in buying it.
Re:it is better to have a router w/external modem. But with a pc, once that pc goes down, net connection is down. Only external modem(w/ fastaccess) i know about is the Alcatel adsl modem. One of my friends has it and hasnt had any problems at all. I assuming you are using windows 9X, NT, 2K. They all having internet connection sharing built in, it just has to be activated.
Re:guy….no.. no problems with streaming Media… just looking for a good solution to networking 3 pcs in this house…
guy- you may be of assistance… I also have an internal pci modem… but i was wondering if anybody had an external modem w/ this service.. i see that you dont but you may know of compatibility issues… do you know what type of external modem i could buy that would work w/ this service.. i know about alcatel speed touch, but they're pretty steep in price… i only want an external modem cause i got in on that netgear RT314 deal… and i wanna use it…. isnt it better to share the internet througha router rather than using one pc w/ the modem as the router.. then hubbing the others, w/ internet sharing software.. or does it really not matter??
Re:I have Bellsouth DSL. I may be of some assistance caused I have successful networked 5 pc's on that connection in my house. The way my setup is:
233mhz with 2K Server, DSL internal pci modem, internet connection sharing.
4 other pc's connected via a 10mbit Hub.
Re:I have the Service and thats why I was looking around in the forums. I have a couple of computers connected through USB Network Adapters.. Why, are you having troubles? Because I am having trouble with the ADSL locking up my system when any streaming Media is running, for example Windows Media player or Real Player..Are You?
