Re:These blocking programs require their filter lists to be updated pretty often, correct?

Re:cybersitter

When I was looking a few years back, it was rated in the top three, and was the only one without subscription fees. It allows you to filter content by topics, and claims to be able to block types of traffic such as newsgroups, peer-to-peer programs, image searches, and others. (I never seriously tested it for this stuff)

Some people want the filter so they don't "stumble" upon it. Don't think you can pull up photobucket in searches.

No, but you can click on a link in a forum… As if that never happens? Not to mention a forum that allows pictures to be pasted in and could be hosted from photobucket and display pornographic pictures.

Re:A few choices, you can throw in a Smoothwall Firewall with a Content Filtering plugin. This software is Linux based and free, requires minimal hardware. My smoothwall is a P2-350 with 192MB Ram -> www.smoothwall.org

Commercial software like SurfControl (www.surfcontrol.com) that can be deployed in many different ways…
