Q: I have a cable connection, and Im using ICS to share it with my other PC. Currently I use ZoneAlarm for a firewall, but Im afraid that might not be enough protection for me because I have to leave the safety of u0026quot; u0026quot, low share files and use the Internet. What is everyone working for software firewalls. I do not want to spend the $ $ $ for a hardware firewall, but will need something that will give me adequate protection. Any ideas?
Re:Actually, in the early days, he strongly recommended Black Ice Defender. He then switched to ZA b/c BID doesn't offer enough protection. I didn't know about any joint venture though.
Re:Just so people know, Steve @ GRC has been biased on Z/A since day one. At one point, there was going to be a "joint-venture" (not public).
Re:Over at GRC.com, they highly recommend ZoneAlarm. I'd trust Steve G. and go with ZoneAlarm.
Re:I suppose ZoneAlarm if you only want a "general" firewall. However, if you really understand how IP's and ports function, you will find TinyFirewall to be the best out there. I have tried them all and found TinyFirewall to be the best. But I would not suggest to a new PC user.
BTW: I would also strongly recommend Tiny to someone with a "hardware" firewall. Configuring it only for outbound calls.
Re:no money = ZoneAlarm!!!
Heck, I'm gonna buy the pro version cause I feel guilty, its too good to be free.
Didn't the new version solve that ICS problem? Or maybe thats the pro version. Check that out.
Re:ZoneAlarm gets my vote.
