Winace is for maximum compression and Winrar is for everything else.
i have used winace and winrar for years, but most of the time if i compress the same file with max compression, they are about the same size. i don't think winace is any better than winrar – just my $.02

Re:>and the industrial strength encryption offered
it uses AES Standard 128 and yes it's very powerfull, very nice when you want to backup encrypted data to cd-r. the other nice thing is that it's able to encryp the file names within the archive itself.

Re:WinRAR
I particularly like the concept of recovery records/volumes, and the industrial strength encryption offered, should I ever need it. I like the easy to set-up compression profiles. I just double click a WinRAR shortcut on the desktop, and it automatically backups up all my user profile folders to CDRW, while not bothering to copy junk like internet cache and temp files, and preserving NTFS security.
WinRAR doesn't 'invade your filesystem', but can optionally add extensions to explorer, for quick archiving. This is only an option and is easily disabled if the extra menu options annoy.

Winrar invades my file system. I still prefer Winzip for everyday decompression.
