Q: I just played my parts for my computer, I have my CPU and heatsink / fan that comes with it. I just need to know the best thermal paste to apply. Any suggestions? Im new at this, VAT .
Re:Ah, I see it now. I'll pop it on in a bit. Thanks for that Kensai.

So I won't need to worry about TIM yet? I will be doing overclocking though once I get into it in a month or two. I will be doing some intensive stuff, such as playing graphically complex games and trying out benchmarks. I hope your right about not needing TIM.
You do need a TIM no matter what. The stock heatsink should come with a little pad on the bottom of it, that's the TIM.

Re:If it's a Winchester, it honestly doesn't matter, especially if you're using Cool n Quiet. My CPU when idle generates practically no heat; the heat sink isn't even warm to the touch, and that's stock cooling/grease. Even the northbridge is hotter.
Athlon64s are cool runners, don't worry about the thermal grease and all unless you're interested in serious overclocking.
Re:The retail one I got from newegg.com didn't have any thermal paste, just the heatsink/fan/CPU.
Re:Stock TIM? You mean it comes with it?
Re:The best TIM is probably arctic silver 5, but its really not much better than the stuff that comes with the stock HSF. I'd just use the stock TIM if I were you.
