Q: Their is a Radeon9700Pro for $ 183 on . But is their a better value out there for that kind of money.

Best Answer: 1. You're not an administrative user apparently? Access Denied huh….

2. The answer is no.

Re:Thanks for all the opinions. 9800Pro it is. I can't wait. :D

So Ben you think it would be best to get 9800p rather than a new gen mid priced card?

well there is a possibility that a) new mid-range cards will not be faster than the current generation high end cards right now b) it will take until Q4 of this year before they come out so thats quite a wait c) when they do come out they will cost around $200 somewhat making your wait for a midrange card pointless.

Unless you are set on getting the new high end cards, it might not be a bad idea to just buy the 9800Pro now.

Re:9700 Pro… FX5900… 9800 non-Pro… 9800 Pro… either of them would be nice, although the 9800 pro is a bit (only $12 or so) out of your $200 price range.

i say save up $12 (he say's his max price is $200) and get a 9800pro

BTW, there is a 9800 Non-pro (http://www..com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-131-406&depa=1) at for $172 with free shipping, which you could just overclock to 9800 Pro speeds. So there your SAVING $10 bucks. Just another option…

Re:I would recommend the 9800pro as well. And if you watch the adds you may be able to pick one up for $199 at BBuy or CompUSA. Wether you do that or get it from I would forget about the 9700pro.

Re:If you need to buy now, then get the 9800 Pro for just over 200 bucks.

Re:We may see the 9700P/9800P at $140 in two months

I wouldn't count on that. When the new cores hit if they aren't ready with a mid tier parts(which I'm not expecting) I wouldn't expect much movement at all from the 97/98, only the 98XT is likely to fall much. The ~$200 price point is likely their floor for which to flush the channels of the last gen parts launching the new high end in the $350-$500 range pushing the 98XT likely down to the $250 range until it has been flushed out of the market.

If they are ready with new mid tier parts they will likely be targetting roughly the same price point(~$200) and we could see some elevated price points as the supply starts to dry up for the R9700/R9800 parts(the new mid tier aren't likely to quite match up with them, although they should be in the same ballpark). I don't expect that the mid tier parts will show up too quickly though, even if they 'launch' at the same they are likely to be in somewhat limited supply until the board vendors ramp up production on the lower margin parts(their initial focus will of course be supplying OEMs and they will buy up most of the mid tier and/or budget offerings).

We have already seen the R9800Pro drop some 30% over the last couple of months, this is a good indication that it is already at the price point where it is being axed. ATi may end up keeping it in production a bit longer if yields become problematic, but if that is the case it certainly wouldn't aid in reduced prices.

Re:Yep, step up to the 9800Pro. It's only a few bucks more, is 10-15% faster and has many less compatibility problems. I was a Nvidia fanboy but my latest 9800Pro has me sold. It was $212 at the last time I checked.

People need to stop buying the 9700Pro and just get the newer card for a few bucks more… you know you will regret it if you don't. :D

Re:As RS showed, both the 9700P and 9800P are about as good price/performance propositions (assuming they both come with the same cables and adapters and a DVD player, if you need them). As long as the 9700P is fast enough for you, go for it.

If you can wait until end of April/early May, though, then prices should fall even further. I don't think they'll fall enough that you won't get a month's worth of gaming out of the price difference, though. We may see the 9700P/9800P at $140 in two months, but probably not in a month.

Re:Pricewatch.com => Videocard Pricing:

Radeon 9700Pro = $183
Radeon 9800Pro = $207 or 13% price difference.

I'd say on average 9800Pro will offer 10-15% price performance increase making the price justified for both. Of course knowing that you almost have the most ultimate graphics card on the market right now for $24 more dollars could justify springing for a 9800Pro. Personally maybe you should consider waiting for 2 months when new cards hit production and pick up these babies at 130-140. Of course I cant blame you buying them now considering Far Cry and U2k4 Tournmanet are amazing games and crave the best hardware you can give them. Personally if you do not consider upgrading for the next 1.5 to 2 years i'd spend extra 24 for 9800Pro.

Re:If you can get a 9800 Pro for $20 more, then by all means, go for it. Otherwise, the 9700 Pro and 9800NP are essentially equal when it comes to performance.
