BF1942, why dose this game run like sh * t online? [cable internet connection] [nf7]

Q: I have a and all pings are 100 + BF1942 servers. Could it be my onboard ethernet port on my new -S or something?, Or is this a problem with the game?

Re:Trying to open specific ports might work, but I'm not sure at the moment exactly which ports you'd have to open. A quick google search should tell you though.

Like I mentioned before, if you have the hacker detection stuff turned on in your router settings, specifically Statefull packet inspection, it will slow down your gaming. Or this is my experience anyhow… your mileage may vary.

I downloaded the demo to try the game out and it was unplayable from the lag and packet loss – I didn't get it from any other game. Needless to say, I never bothered to buy the product…

As I said, in the 1.2 patch, they improved the netcode by a MILE. It made the game so much better. We're on 1.31 now, and it's getting better all the time.

The DesertCombat mod, which is now on 0.35e, adds so much more to the game. I think that you are making a big mistake in missing out on this brilliant game, probably the best I've played in a LONG time.

I checked out the DL sections again, but they only have the demo up to 1.1,. Eh, prob wasn't many people in demo servers anyway =)

Re:It dosen't involve my graphical settings for sure. I have an OC'ed TBred at 2100mhz, DDR running at 200mhz FSB on an -S with a 9700Pro, pretty sweet setup.

My in game ping has gotten to 400, and most servers kick anyone over 250 to 300 it seems. I've found some servers that are playable, but the main problems I have are stoping while walking (your pressing forward but not moving anywhere), and that little "connection problem" in the left corner of the screen. Shooting someone with an etire clip from a machine gun at point blank range and hitting nothing, then getting killed by the same person with a simple hand gun is a little bothersome as well.

I hooked up my internet connection directly to my computer and it dose far better than when connected to a broadband hub, but there are other computers in the house that need internet so I can't do that.

I've made my computer the DMZ host through the router to no avail, and I've also tried opening all ports listed as widely used in the hub. Are there any hubs specialized for gaming? Or perhaps hub settings that eliminate ping problems?

Re:Hey, I've done decently well with pings of 150-275 with my 56k, I think you will be just dandy with your oh so horrible 100 ping :P

Re:You have updated to the latest patch, yeah? Cos the netcode in <1.2 was pretty crappy.

Of course, it could also be too high detail settings causing your computer to stutter

Re:The only instances of severe lag Ive ever heard of in BF1942 are from:

* Connecting to a abnormally distant servers.
* Playing with 56k.
* Having settings too high with a crappy setup. (shouldnt be classified as 'lag')

Re:Hell, I've experienced weird lag over LAN on BF1942 ;) No, the network didn't suck. Wouldn't surprise me if it's something innate to BF1942…sure is buggy enough.

As for your problem, beats me. Ping shouldn't matter all that much though if it's 100 or less… it may be the way the in-game browser reports them. I know pings are weird in UT2k3, however it generally plays well even if it 'lists' a higher ping than would be desired on broadband and/or LAN.

100ms is a very respectable ping. the game is pretty playable up to 300 ping IMO

p.s. it's not the game that has ping problems it's your connection dipsh!t

Calm down young one, I've heard people complain of online BF1942 speed problems in the past. My connection is fine.

Re:i also have this problem and have to reconfigure my router to play it correctly when i go home

Re:I do have a router, what ports and settings should I change? Games have been pretty unplayable, so the ping has to be pretty bad, I'll keep trying, anyone have any other ideas?

Re:If you have a router for your cable modem, I find that makes a difference in the pings, but not that much if the hacker detection stuff is disabled. I know if I enable the SPI stuff on my SMC router, my pings are horrible.

BUT, there is hope… I'm assuming you're referring to the pings found in gamespy or in the server browser and not in the actual game? If so, then try joining a game, you should find that your ping is 30-40ms lower than what you so in the server list. This is the case for myself, and the small group of people that I usually play with.
