Q: Well Im on to my next system build on moving my 1.3 TBIRD Up.
Listed below is my setup and I wanted to get input on some of the components suggestions.
Intel Pentium 4 / 2.4CGHz 800FSB
Antec 430W Power Supply TRUE430
ASUS P4P800 (865) OR ASUS P4C800 (875) 512 MB PC3200 DDR
Mushkin 222 – Black OR MEMORY CORSAIR XMS PC 9700 Radeon 3200LLPT
ATI PRO
Alpha PAL8942 Socket 478. Does this fit the listed ASUS Boards?
AS you see I have a few options with some of the components, but the main one is the reminder! The cost is not as important as the performance because I have not upgraded for near 18 months
Another option is a Dell Precision 977 503 Dell? Workstation 360 Minitower
Intel? Pentium? 4 Processor, 2.40GHz, 512K / 800 Front Side Bus (Not sure of the type used Dell MB)
256MB, DDR333 SDRAM Memory, NECC (2 DIMMS)
nVidia, Quadro NVS 280, 64MB, dual VGA monitor capable
40GB ATA-100 IDE , 1 inch (7200 rpm)
3Yr Parts + onsite labor (Next Business Day)
Plus the general system stuff for a total of $ 670 after $ 200 rebate?
Re:Check out this power supply article. It makes for very interesting reading:
Power Supply! (http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20030609/index.html)
They looked at different aspects of power supplies. They dig up the real truth about power supplies and whay a 400 watt power supply is not really 400 watts???
A power supply that is less efficient makes more heat and burns up more electricity as a side effect! This is very interesting.
Re:Anandtech just wrote an article where they tested 400 Mhz memory on various 865 and 875 chipset motherboards. They used a variety of memory on a variety of motherobards. This might be a good time to go check it out!!!

Re:Alpha PAL8942 for Socket 478 . Does this fit the listed ASUS Boards? waste of money unless you're planning a massive overclock. Intel retail HSFs are pretty good.

You're defeating the point of an 800 MHz FSB processor by matching it with DDR333 memory. DDR400 enables the full-true bandwidth needed by 800 MHz FSB processors like the 2.4C you're considering.
Also, why not get an Allied (Foxconn) 450W PSU from newegg.com for $40+$6 s/h? All in all it is a better power supply based on its specs compared to either the Antec 430W or Enermax 450W comparable power supplies. (It's also $30 cheaper than either!)
Check out Anandtech's 865PE & 875P Memory Guide (http://www.{$MySite}/memory/showdoc.html?i=1828) for help with picking the right kind of memory. It's going to answer a lot of your questions.
