Q: Hi, I just built my friend a P4 2.6c / 800mhzfsb on the gigabyte motherboard GA-8IP900-L, 256 MB of PC2700 RAM (not dual channeled) with a PNY GeForce 5200FX card. Sounds ok, but heres the catch. My friend that running the benchmark for ff11 (playonline.com) switches the monitor at random points in the test. I checked everything, seems to be overheating, no conflicts, vsync (default off), drivers update, drivers re-installed, a whole new OS (XP to 2000), updates, and changed the file system (NTFS to FAT32), installed map of the ram, installed map of the map. Ive tried everything, and I thought it was just the benchmark itself, until I used the Benchmark 3DMark 03 game testing and pretty much after the first one or two game tests, the monitor showed that the monitor again. The monitor turns off, and goes into a sleep mode, then the system is running, but there is no responsive action to the UN to do, unless it is a hard shutdown or restart. Any ideas?
Oh yes and I have noticed, its not where the games benchmarking shows the monitor (3D Mark 03) when it comes to the CPU test 1. You might also like to say that the FSB is now at 200 in the bios with a x13 multi. Running at standard speed.

An 800 FSB requires PC3200. If you are running PC2700 you are probably pushing it too hard. If you get faster ram, your benchmarks will not crash.
That's interesting… hrm well oh well too bad toe board only goes up to 2700's, maybe if i dual channel it.

Re:There are NO 2.66GHz 800MHz Intel CPU's (3.2 GHz & up are 800 MHz).
The 2.4, 2.6, 2.8. 3.0, and 3.2 are all available with 800MHz FSB. They are given the term "C" to represent that; i.e. 2.4C
On the contrary, I think he forgot the rather IMPORTANT c behind the 2.6c. Which is the new line of Canterwood core cpu's with the 800mhz fsb's.
The "C" does not stand for canterwood. It simply represents the fact that the processor has an 800MHz FSB. A "b" represents a 533MHz FSB

There are NO 2.66GHz 800MHz Intel CPU's (3.2 GHz & up are 800 MHz).
Are you thinking of HT (Hyperthreading)enabled?
As to your question regarding other "Benchmark/Software turning
off the display", 3dmark 2k3 Pro is the only one I know of at this time.

Re:Do many benchmark softwares shutdown the monitor like that? I am another one of macho's friends and FFXI was what was first shutting the monitor off. The system is butchered because this dumb kid didnt want to buy from online stores at all, like he was completely opposed to it, he didnt even want us to buy it for him. So he went and bought parts from Compusa, they gave him a 2.6Ghz P4 800mghz FSB, but then a 533Mghz FSB rated mobo, then he only got one stick of PC2700 ram. We jimmy rigged it so it became single channell and it would boot up on the mobo.

It just seems like the PC is locked/crashed.
