Q: I have a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF monitor, and have noticed a little while a humming sound that comes out. Now its strange because sometimes there is the lively, sometimes not, depending on what is displayed on the screen. I can not quite figure out what causes it, sometimes its as simple as I highlight some text on the screen, the buzzing starts.
Ive tried messing with the refresh rates, etc. But that did not appear to help.
Any ideas about the cause of this, how can it be solved?

Re:Well, after trying the above mentioned ideas, I called Samsung about it. The agreed to send me a new (reconditioned) monitor to me at no charge. I just have to bring my monitor to the UPS store when I pick the new one, and it'll get shipped back to them.
Kudos to Samsung customer service on this one! I'm quite impressed.

I'll give that a try tonight. Otherwise I may give Samsung a call tomorrow and see if anything can be done. The closest repair center they list on their site is several hundred miles away, and I think shipping it would be a bit steep as the thing weighs a ton.

Re:Something you can try but no guarantee that it will help. Take a can or compressed air and find some openings that you can get the straw into and try to blow out any dust that may have accumulated on the componets inside. This may not work very well since a lot of monitors don't have very big openings. If you have or know someone who has an air compressor with a blow gun may be a better choice. I would not reccomend taking it apart to do this since some capacitors can and will hold a charge for a long time. Especially the high voltage ones that can lets say give you curly hair to put it mildly.
Accumulated dust can build up a static charge but there is no way to say that is the cause of the buzzing except to try it. It is more likely that dust isn't the cause but it is something you can try.
I can't stress enough don't take apart to do this. Death could be an unintended result. Also if you use compressor with a blow gun don't put the blow gun against the plastic housing of the monitor. Most compressors use 120-150 psi that could be enough to break a small wire insde. Oh and did I mention don't take the monitor apart to do this. 
Re:Do't know if this is helpful. Newer 955df's do NOT have the drop down panel. Mine is about 5 weeka old and is fabulous. Contact Samsung customer support… there is none beter.

My NEC Accusync 95F has buzzed since a month or two after I got it. That was ~September 2001. I suppose it is still under warranty if I wanted to send it back, but I have to pay shipping and I would be without a good monitor for a while.
Re:Well, that's no good news then. It has been running for awhile now with the buzz, this is just the first time I've gotten around to actually asking about it.
i did try messing around with the refresh rates again, but that didn't help unfortuantely.
So, basically, it sounds like this is just something I'm going to have to live with I suppose. Unless anyone has any other ideas?
Re:the buzzing is caused by the high voltage circutry overloading. this will eventually lead to a failed monitor, I have seen them run for a long time(up to a year of nearly constant use) before biting the big one, but rest asured it will go.
Re:Some are complaining of problems with the new 3.8 ATI drivers. I know I was having problems with my video when I upgraded to 3.8. I'm back at 3.7 and so far so good.

Re:I bought it early in 2001 I believe, and it does have the drop down control panel. I'm not sure what Samsung's warantee policy is, but somehow I'm guess I'm passed that.
I'll try messing with the refresh rate when I get home tonight and see if that makes a difference, though I'm pretty sure I tried that before and didn't notice any difference in the buzzing. I'm running it at 1024×768@85hz I believe, so maybe I'll see if bumping that down to 75hz will help.

And thanks for the reminder on the UPS… ive really really really gotta upgrade from that APC300 for my dual monitor p4 rig. Ive got one running outside the UPS now… but I can do better.
Edit: BTW both of mine are samsung 955DF 2 tones. I know of at least 9 of these monitors in operation, most in dual monitor rigs. I've seen them take tumbles forward off desks and I've seen them hit the floor at lan parties. I think they're on of the best monitors for any price on the entire market. Samsung should take an RMA on it unless its ancient… ancient defined as pneumatic drop down controls.

Re:Our monitor back home starts to buzz if we set the refresh to the max for the resolution we're using. Maybe try knocking the refresh rate down one and see if it stops?

Re:I have had a lot of monitors do this. Some do it, some don't, some our much worse than others. I have heard that a cheap UPS can also cause this problem as well though.
