Q: Right now I have 2×512 mushkin (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146355) and I want to 1GB 2gb.
This (http://www.newegg.com / Product / product.asp? = item # N82E16813136147 Detailed Specs) is the DFI motherboard I have that supp primal 3200 to 3GB by 3 slots.
If I add just one more stick of 1GB of RAM will that mess the setup somehow since the 512 and 1gb sticks together?
This for Battlefield 2 btw.
I an A64 3400 + with a BFG 6800 GT and I want it to run smoother. I have so much damn money on the computer I want it to run nicely.

Re:again, with all three dimms full, that RAM will be reduced to DDR333 AND 2T. for me, the latencies gained by moving to 2×1GB are a lot easier to accept than "upgrading" to DDR333 2T.

No, going from 1gb to 2gb shows almost no performance increase in BF2. Look here. (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST–2147-x-x-x&body_pagenum=5) You might see a little faster loading times but thats about it.
Its not about frames silly. Its about jumpyness. I can tell you right now that my usage while in game goes up to 1.33gigs with my background progs running. So 1.5 gigs might be OK but might as well just make the jump to 2 gigs.

Re:I would just grab another 512 stick and have 1.5gb guy. And by having a 1gb stick, the latencies are really high and bad for gaming unless you spend a couple hundred for one stick whish is not fun. So just buy another 512mb of mushkin but make sure it has the same latency as the other sticks you have. With 3 sticks of 512 you wouldnt have the latencies running at something like 3-5-5-8 like some of the 1gb sticks.

i can't tell you with absolute certainty why or how, but 2GB made my lag/studdering problems go away. with 1GB of memory BF2 crashed on me twice with "out of memory errors". there are many people with similar results going to 2GB. for running textures = high, 2GB is a definitely improvement, trust me.
For running the textures on high, you still wouldnt need to push the memory to 2gb, 1.5gb would be fine.

Re:if you're tight on $, the crucial sticks i have ($210 for 2GB) use the same 5B-D chips as the uber-expensive DDR500 crucial ballistix. people are also having good results with mushkin and the ocz 2-3-2-5 stuff. of course, the ballistix too but they're ~$380 for 2GB.

Re:sorry i completely missed your edit guy.
So I should probably try to sell my ram now and just get 2 1gb sticks huh…
Will that make a big difference?

Re:what A64 core do you have? that will determine just how much of a performance hit you'll suffer if you fill all 3 dimm slots. take the 2×1GB route unless you absolutely can't. the older the core, the more of a performance hit with all 3 dimms filled. with a newcastle core, i'm pretty sure, like guy said, the board will default to DDR333 2T. (edit: come to think of it, you'd have to have one of the hard-to-find newark or lancaster core cpu's to get around this).

Re:This socket 754 or 939?
EDIT: wups just saw its a 754 mobo. Maybe look at selling one of your 512 sticks and grabbing a GB stick so you have 1.5 GB??
Pretty sure with all those RAM slots filled RAM speed will want to be like 2T PC2700…
