Q: I am in Jamaica and my parents are in France. Is there a way for me to remotely access their computer like remote winXPs? I want to hold on to their computer when Im actually there.

Re:Watch out. I think France has some screwy laws when it comes to encryption.

I believe it is but if you want to be even more secure, you can use Putty in addition to Remote Desktop. No it is Not secure by default.

However there is a free Encryption Plug-In that can be downloaded into Ultr@VNC Directory and it provides 128bit encryption.

In some countries, the ISPs block a crapload of ports so it may be impossible. Both Remote Desktop and VNC can set to any port that is available.

If you, or who ever is on the computer to be ?Controlled? find it to hard or you have problems setting it, this is just as good and much easier to set.

Re:Remote Desktop will work for that no matter where you are in the world. :)

Just make sure you forward port 3389 to their internal IP if they are behind a typical cable/dsl router. If they aren't running Pro then you should probably try some flavor of VNC since it is free and can be encrypted.
