Q: I am ready to move to an apartment complex that has Ethernet setup services via a company that works with my university. They use DHCP. I have two PCs. Of course they say you should pay double if you use two computers, but if I just throw a switch because they can see that I take two IP addresses?

Since, with a broadband router, you ONLY use one external (registered) address, you aren't violating anything with them at all.

Re:You may want to try hooking up 2 pc's to see if it even works. The ethernet properties I manage are setup to only allow one mac address behind each port…basically one computer per port. Chances are, if you can hookup 2 computers, and manage to get them on the network, chances are they don't monitor the network very closely.
Does the service come with your apt, or is it extra? If it comes with the apartment, I'm willing to bet you can get away with it.

Re:Anything acting as a dhcp server will know because your lease ip address is bind in their database. Im sure if they are charging per pc they have some kind of address scheme. Good luck!
