Q: Can anyone possibly help me . I installed WinME on a machine with win98 upgrade. The system says the hard drive is there, but the drive can not be opened. There are files on the disk of interest . but I have no way to access them . I want to draw from the files of the disk before I reformat the drive. The files are placed on the drive under Win95. The disk is a Maxtor 30GB and is only about 4 months old.

Re:If you can't see the drive in DOS then you may have a damaged partition. Norton Utilities or OnTrack's fixit have tools that can fix that. If they fail then try the copy of EasyRecovery Pro Lite that comes with Fix-It. That can find files on a seriously damaged drive. The lite version is limited to 50 files. The full version can be found at www.ontrack.com but it is expensive.

Re:I've tried that… I can't even access the drive… it's doesn't give me a drive letter. I've tried the max blast utility that came with the drive, and I can see that the files are on the drive with the utility, i'm just not able to access them.
