Can not boot server without being connected kb / mouse [boot server] [sc420]

Q: When I boot my new (Win2003 Server) without a keyboard and mouse plugged in I get an error at startup window that a device driver is not loaded correctly. I can login, but have other isues.
I want to start with nothing except power and network cable attached.
Any Ideas?
Thanx, Ron

Re:I have read a few posts about damaging boards plugging PS2s in while runnning.
About a year ago, I plugged a kb in and the system died, never to boot again.
Don't remember the system, it may have been an older HP….probably a freak static thing, but you know that you never forget those things!
I am going to try the registry hack I found, and if that does not work, I'll just hide the kb/mouse behind the tower for now.

Thanx,
Ron

Re:You should be fine to just remove them once it's running. It's more the plugging-in that does the damage. Having said that, I've never damaged a motherboard by doing it thousands of times to hundreds of PCs (including my own), and never heard of it actually doing any damage.

What motherboard is it – the Gigabyte in your sig?

I know some server boards are a bit funny about KVM switches- unless the keyboard and mouse is active on that particular machine from POST to Windows desktop, the keyboard & mouse won't work, and cause frantic beeping from the server. However, a VNC connection works fine :P

Re:I am not crazy about messing with PS2 ports while a machine is running. I have toasted a mobo doing that!

The driver is i8042prt.
I found a registry fix for Win2000, but not sure if it'll work for 2003.

Re:What device does Windows say is not loading correctly? Leaving the keyboard or mouse disconnected should not cause that erro, so I suspect it's another device. Check the Device manager.
