Q: I can not find the latest driver for my LAN controller for abit is7g. The one listed on their site is badly outdated. The specs say that I have a 3Com Gigabit Ethernet controller from Marvell, but I can not find the driver. The driver install lists as 3Com Gigabit LOM (3c940). The driver is like being from 2003.
Please help!
Thanks. =)
Re:rather not…building a new computer within a month or so and don't think it would be worth the investment (however small). it's just a really annoying problem that shouldn't be happening. =)
Re:How about, we try another NIC.
They can be had very cheaply on Ebay. Aim for 3COM or another known reputable brand.
Disable the onboard NIC.
Lets see if we can get you wowing.
Re:thanks for all the help guys…I'm not sure what the problem is. I downloaded the latest .0046 drivers and the install seem to go fine but it still is labeled the same under device manager. I wouldn't care except when i tried to install world of warcraft it says my "network drivers were out of date and not compatible." That definitely never said that before I reformatted my system. Oh well…I'll keep thinking. =)
Re:Sorry I couldn't be much help
Re:Sorry about the dud link…..
Should've tested it.
BUT……

No, I haven't tested all these, but this is only for the .0044 ver.
Let us know how it goes fella
Re:hmm, thanks for the reply but I can't find the lan drivers in that package. I run the update utility but I don't think it finds anything new and doesn't change my lan driver. Also, when I run the utility it doesn't give me a choice to choose what to install (a la nforce).
Thanks again…I'm probably just missing something. =(
Re:Have you tried getting drivers from the Intel website? I think the LAN is onboard on the 865 chipset, so the broadcom chip is just a PHY. Here is a link to the Intel driver download page: Link (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/download.aspx?url=/9589/a08/infinst_autol.exe&agr=N&ProductID=816&DwnldId=9589&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng). This driver is for audio and USB and stuff too. If it's like the Nforce drivers, you can just select what you need. Hope it helps!
Re:any ideas why my driver would have "switched" after I reformated?
Re:i think I even have a newer version than that….
the weird thing is that i had a different driver when i first loaded the system…like it didn't say 3com…i think it was a realtek. weird stuff happening.
Re:that download link didn't work… =(
Re:yet. =) I will check it out
Re:http://drivers.soft32.com/download/driver-3COM_Gigabit_3C940_3C2000-24954-5.html
