Q: It is a large heat sink, and plastic posts that attach to the CPU itsself. there is no fan, so I bought a new one with fans and wants to, but do not want, while tryin to harm the CPU off the old one. can get pictures if needed .

Re:no clips, looks like the posts that hold on the heat sink, "expand" when they go thru the CPU, the new hsf has a metal peice that slides on to keep it in place. i have never seen one like this, so baffled still tryin to get to a point where i can get pics.

Re:They are correct, there is usually a slider-type clip that traps the pins on these.
Re:THe HS may have studs that go thru the CPU, from one side out the other. The other side may have a metal or plastic piece that sides off the studs.
Re:look on the back of the P3, there should be clips that need to be taken off
Re:hmmmmmm will post pics later, the cpu is in the machine i am using now
and cant get enuff lite down there for the web cam to come out clear..
