Q: Hi guys n gals!
I have just an Abit motherboard KT7 bourght Duron 600 and one week 35. problem is that the Duron after week 31 diff voltage settings and I have had my BIOS flash so this change in the processor voltage is taken into account by the BIOS.
BUT You can not go down without a BIOS flash processor! I read many articles on the Net about the conclusion of the fourth L7 bridge with a pencil. I tried this several times and if it works or not my new equipment is broken. Like all the memory and graphics cards I have other work I try PCs.
Should a conductive pen? is this reversible?
Anyone else had this problem?
I am about to get my hair to pull out and crush processors with the heel of my shoe! and so pointers would be great ! I do not overclock or anything just on my monitor would be nice!
THANKS;)

Re:Knowley, search around the forum for posts by Jonnyguru and Russ. They have plenty to say about ABIT mobos, particularly their high failure/DOA rate. ABITs defect rate is the highest in the industry AND the charge a $25 RMA fee to add insult to injury. BUT, if you get a good ABIT board, you'll probably love it.

Re:well thanks for that I am getting this new processor first and will try it all out of the case first!
Is it common for companies to make duff motherboards?
Thanks

Re:Knowley,
I have not experienced this problem first hand but I believe that the symptoms were that the system powers up and frezzes at the memory test. Seems like yours doesn't get this far. Mobos probably dead or you should try your mobo outside your case as shorting traces on the underside of the mobo is a common issue.

Re:oh well I am going to leave it now and see what happens with my thuderbird!
Thunderbirds Are GO!!!
Seems like a waste of cash…twice the cost for twice the cache and an extra 100Mhz!!! ooo major difference i think not…
No doubt I will start posting the same quesitons in a week or so when I get the Thunderbird!
Thanks for all your help, much apprecited!!!!…must go and package up this usless hardware now!

Re:I have read else where that it needs to be bent downwards to ensure the cpu seats properly.
I had no problems inserting the chip it seemed to fit very eassily…i.e. the pins lined up perfectly and then the level held it in place!
Wouild this temp probe stop the POST function of the motherboard/BIOS before boot up?

Re:not to worry the company I bourght the processor off is going to take it back and sell me a thunderbird 700…which should not have any probs!
With the temp probe…this is not mentioned in the manual….should I bend it upwards a little to ensure good contact with the cpu?

Re:Yes, bend the temp probe down!!
The probe as shipped will not allow the CPU to fully seat.
Bend it over a little, so that it still is slightly above the socket
base. Then, firmly press down on the CPU, so that you make sure you
are pushing the probe against the bottom of the cpu, and pushing it
flush with the top of the socket, while you lock the CPU in place.

Re:Does the machine do anything when you turn it on?
Fans whirl? Hard drive activates? Beeping noises?
When I turn it on the following happens : Fans spin, HD and FD do something (spin for HD and make a click click noise on the FD) and there are no BEEPS from the PC.
With the bridge I got out a magnifying glass and carefully coloured in the gold markings with an hb pencil…I have since repeated this process numerous times!!!!
The Cables for my HD and FD can only go in one way round due to the notches on the top. Both the memory and CPU have been in and out plenty of times…and I have tried each memory chip on its own…and I have also tried them in anpother pc and they work fine…(pc100 memory).
~~With the thermal probe I have done nothing…I just plonked the cpu in position and then closed the level down, should I maybe bend this up/down a bit to get better contact/no contact???
If the power cable was not connected the Fans would not spin!
BTW the power and HD light come on and stay on but the FD light does not.

If you indeed closed the bridge, I'm confident that the machine should post. The only other reason is that something else is wrong.
Are your pin 1 connections correct on your HD and floppy? Have you reseated your memory and cpu?
Is the thermal probe up just far enough to make your cpu not make proper contact in it's pin housing?
Err is the power cable connected to the motherboard? He he I did that once. Searched for two hours LOL
Re:the question I am asking is that has anyone else had this problem?
I have closed this bridge with a pencil but it seems to have had no effect?
Re:Knowley
If you already had the information why are you asking?
Just connect the single bridge as they describe.
If you want a decent picture of the bridges up close go HERE! (http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html)
Re:But there is an issue with Duron processors made after week 31 that the KT7 does not recognise them! Its to do with a voltage change on the processor and by closing this bridge you can get aorund it and then flash the BIOS, Flasinhg the BIOS sorts the problem out so then I can open the bridge again and carry on as normal!
see this link!!!

Re:As guy stated it should recognize your processor vcore settings. I know this for a fact because I wanted 1.85 before the new bios was released so I just penciled in the Threebridges necessary to be detected at 1.85. Go to the link below and there is a great little program to show you all the contacts per each setting for socket A chips,or just erase the pencil marks and flash you bios. There is also a mod for the KT7 to get to 1.95 and I know this works too.

Re:Err The motherboard will automatically see what voltage it is UNLESS you close the bridges.
You have it backwards. Your motherboard will auto sense from 1.35 V to 1.85 V
