Best Answer: If one has not installed any DVD software that would run when computer starts then
Try to doubleclick the yellow exclamation mark and select uninstall to remove the driver. then in the Device Manager and in the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes. XP should pick up the presence of the CDROM drive and install the XP CD driver driver. If there is any manufacturer's CD driver, it will replace the XP driver.

If you have recently install any other DVD or CD like Clone CD and Clone DVD, it may have over written the drivers and load these up instead. One would then have to remove the incompactible software and re-install the driver using the manufacturer or from XP installation or from Microsoft Website.

If none of the above will work, do a xp system repair using XP installation disk. Do not re-install the XP system as it will erase all the icons in the desktop with a new registry unless one has keep a copy of existing registry.

Re:Try uninstalling it from device mgr and reboot. That's what I did when I had the same problem and it fixed it.

Re:What OS are you running? If you are running XP or 2k, look at Disk Management? Do you see it in there? Maybe you have conflict with the drive letters.

Re:Go to "My Computer," right-click on any drive, and go to "Properties." Once there, click on the "Hardware" tab. Does the CD drive show up there?
