Q: Im upgrading my CPU.
Ive installed a Celeron 1.10 GHz, 256KB L2 cache, 100MHz system bus
into my Chaintech 6vjd2 (http://www.chaintech.com.tw/products/socket370/6vjd2.htm ) Mobo 0.
When I power the PC, the CD light flashes and the HD light goes on.
Eventually the HD light goes out, but I dont get any video or beep.
I a similar reaction when switching back to my PPGA celery if I dont get to reset the CMOS reset CMOS.
Unfortunately doesnt help for the new processor.
Ive decided that either my jumper settings are wrong. Ive tried several variations (100MHz x 7.5). What they should be set to (manual only goes up ratio of 8.0)? whether there is a problem with the CPU (perhaps incompatible)?
Re:Almost forgot, you wanted an alternative to Powerleap. Well, I believe there is only one:
370 GU Socket 370 adapter FC-PGA2 to FC-PGA for Intel Tualatin Core Cpu's – $29.95 (http://www.strattoncomputer.com/370gusoc370a.html)
Tom's Hardware Review – New Processors On Old Boards: Adapters From Upgradeware for Socket 370 and Socket 423 (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q3/020924/index.html)
Re:Is it possible that I have an incompatible CPU?
Sounds like it. Multipliers are locked.
DOes my mobo not support Tualatin FC-PGA2 processors?
I guess not. The highest cpu that your board supports is probably a Coppermine 1.1ghz/100mhz 128k cache Celeron. If you are the adventurous type, there are work-arounds for the BX chipset. However, I have no idea whether the same hacks apply to your motherboard.
Re:The writing in the Chaintech manual implies that you can force a multiplier setting.
In the review they are running a Celeron 1.0Ghz at the 133mhz setting.
It might be an unlocked processor.
Why not try running it at 8x 133mhz (about 1064mhz)?
What core is this processor? It mentions the voltage setting is automatic
maybe it doesn't support the voltage this Celeron needs.
YMMV:cool:
Re:When I run my old PPGA 500 processor, it doesn't matter what the multiplier is set to, it always boots up at 66X7.5.
Is it possible that I have an incompatible CPU?

I'm guessing that this is my problem. Is there an easy way to upgrade a FC-PGA to a FC-PGA2?
I've been reading about the mods and they sound pretty intense, and powerleap is almost the same price as a motherboard upgrade.. are there cheap slotkey style adapters out there?
Re:dang – there are 16 possible settings @ 2^4
So if it starts at 2.5 multiplier, then that will only get you to 10x on the 16th position. I don't know how you could do it, because I'm pretty sure the multiplier is locked. So any other selection than 11x will not work (?)
Maybe with a bios upgrade?

Re:Yup, I saw that..
I uploaded the section with the jumpers here. (http://guy.homestead.com/files/6vjd2/6vjd2-2.pdf)
There are 4 jumpers and the settings look something like this (where 1=on, 0=off)
The ? values are the ones not identified in the manual.
0000 9.5?
0001 8.5?
0010 7.5
0011 6.5
0100 9?
0101 8
0110 7
0111 6
1000 5.5
1001 4.5
1010 3.5
1011 2.5?
1100 5
1101 4
1110 3
1111 2?
Re:According to this review (http://www.active-hardware.com/english/reviews/mainboard/ct-6vjd2.htm) on active-hardware.com, Alteration of the clock multiplier to a setting ranging from 5X to 12.5X can be accomplished using jumpers JP12.
I'd like to see the jumper configuration, but someone hacked the chaintech website (http://www.chaintech.com.tw/) ![]()
Re:My manual doesnt give an 11X multiplier option, it only lists up to 8X.
I've decoded their jumper scheme and believe that the highest ratio hardware setting is 9.5X.
If I use 8X, shouldnt the pc still boot up using 100X8? or would I get the symptoms that I described above?
Is it possible that my mobo cant handle the 256kb cache? The specs are pretty vague : "Supports Intel and VIA Socket 370 processors up to 1.2GHz"
Re:In theory, it should be:
100 Mhz FSB x 11x multiplier = 1.1 Ghz
