Cisco question transcievers vs WICs [cisco 2610 router] [cisco 2610]

Q: My router has only a 10/100 port.

IIRC, using a transciever I may be one of the serial ports to an Ethernet in-one, right? Or should I go to another WIC buy? If so, do you mind me poiting a source that has one availble? Ive not found somethign comaptible on eBay: o

It is like one year since Ive used Cisco routers so kind resources.

Goose,

Didn't I tell you the 2610 has been end of life for quite some time?

What are you trying to accomplish and maybe we can help.

I am trying to take the CCNA test but I have to study first. That, and I would like some practice.

Since I don't have another router, I want to eth 's so that I can create nat pools and such

Re:Aui port hasn't been used on routers for a LONG time.

What does it look like? An RJ45? Or a DB15?

A 2610 should only have a CON, AUX and 10 Base-T ethernet and WIC slots (for WAN connectivity) and a network module slot.

CON and AUX are async serial, normally used for console or possibly dial backup with a modem.

The AUI is the transeiver thing on a 2500/1600 router. It looks somewhat like the serial connector so I could see th confusion. You say the 2610 has a 10/100 port. Is it a 2610 or a 2610xm? If it's just a regular 2610 then you only have a 10meg port. Should be ok for most home use though.

WHat I am saying is that I attach a transciever to the aui to connect to it, right?

sorry no AUI will get you a ethernet from the serial on the cisco. What you want in an NM-1e or NM-4e. That will give yo u1 or 4 10 meg ethernet. There is no add on card for the 2600 that supports 100meg.

really? that sucks:(

I guess I understand why (it isn't fast enough) Thanks for the great info.
