comp auto-shutdown after installing new RAM [auto shutdown] [initial boot]

Q: I was with AMD Athlon XP processor with memory 256mbx2 PC2700 ram, FSB is set to 166. I recently bought 512mbx2 pc3200 in the hope of increasing the FSB to 200. all was well with the first start, but then my comp auto power off after 3mins or so. The same happened after repeated boot. My computer is unstable if it is running at 3200 +? when I returned to + 2500, Everything is back to normal.

Re:Have you tried updating the BIOS? The most recent version for your mobo is 04.07.29 and can be downloaded from http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/support.php?ps=237&type=1.

Good luck!

Re:the resulting frequency does display the same value as the fsb. it was set to auto, and when i set it to 100%, it's still display the same value, which is 200. so i assume setting to auto is ok. stil, the same problem occur.

Re:i dont have that board, im like the tech support person that is in another country with no clue as to what the part looks like. but i can look it up!

in the bios, if you set the FSB Frequency to 200 MHz, and Memory Frequency to 100% it should make the memory speed DDR400, does the line below that "resulting frequency" say it will be that speed? maybe it was set to something like auto, or higher than 100% which would make the ram originally run at ddr400 (i guess it was 120%) while the fsb at 166 (which is 333) and when you made the FSB 200 it shot the ram to ddr480 since it was still at 120%?

also, i really hate the layout of that board when i look at it. here is my source for the bios info http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/8rda3g/8rda3g_3.htm

Re:what motherboard are you running on anyway?

"is my computer unstable if running at 3200+??" – maybe, try setting the ram speed so its 133 when the FSB is 166, so that when you get the FSB to 200 the ram becomes like 160. try downloading memtest86+ and running that off a floppy, or run it from ultimatebootcd when your doing your overclock via the fsb. see if memtest fails when the fsb is higher, is the ram speed getting to high for its timings? like ddr400 is something like 3-3-3-6? ddr333 is something like 2.5-3-3-5, the tighter CAS timings, etc. at the lower speed can cause the restart/bsod at the higher memory speed since you need to make the timings higher, like the cas be 3 instead of 2.5.
