Q: Im using a BEFSR41 router.
When I connect a computer directly to the cable modem everything works fine. Internet works.
When I connect a computer to the router and 2, only two computer work. I have tried different ports on the back of the router. I connect each computer works, except for a computer. Computer 1 has worked on this setup . before, such as during the summer, but broke the network before school.
Any idea what would cause a computer to connect to the Internet directly to the cable, but not with the router?
Only what I have done to try one card.
Thoughts other countries?
Best Answer: Simply Connect the XBOX to the computer via a Ethernet crossover cable and run the Internet connection wizard and allow Internet connection sharing.
You may have to get the network details from running IPCONFIG on the computer to populate required information in the XBOX like Gateway I.P, Sub Net Mask…etc

I think you have a crossover cable there.
Works from the PC to the cable modem (uses a crossover), doesn't work from PC to Switch port of the router (because it needs a straight-through).

I think you have a crossover cable there.
Works from the PC to the cable modem (uses a crossover), doesn't work from PC to Switch port of the router (because it needs a straight-through).

Re:I had the exact same problem with 2 different routers. Someone here told me to clone my MAC address to the router from the PC, and everything was lovely from then on.

Nope, not cloning the mac. I will 2x check though. Where exactly am I checking ? Somewhere in windows XP or the router ?

on that computer 1 try to renew your (DHCP) IP address. If your XP do it through your network options. If you got Win 98 go to MS dos and type ipconfig /release_all [Enter] then type ipconfig /renew_all
Also you need to type in 192.168.1.1 and put in user: admin pass: admin (default settings) and go in there set up for DHCP serve. check your clients list and see if that computer 1 is on the list. Try that AFTER you renew your IP on the other computer. Check your cables too just to be sure.
I ve tried ipconfig /release and renew, but not with "all", I have also tried it through the network address, but it always fails to get the ip. I cannot access 192.168.1.1 from computer 1, how do I add it to the dhcp list using computer 2?

Re:It is your router, I had two of those go bad, different versions. That particular model has been plagued with horrible firmware and linksys hasn't really put an effort towards ixing it. My advice is to borrow a router if possible to make sure 100%. I have a 30 dollar no-name router that has worked fine non-stop for 6 months.
