Computer normally sealed . [power button] [windows xp]

Q: I have on my computer installed. If I quit, will say: save your settings. Then it will say Windows is shutting down . and thats it. It remains on that screen until I manually press the on / off button. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Best Answer: Does this happen when you do Start -> Shut Down ? If it does, try reinstalling windows. Seem like file corruptions.

You most likely have a hung app. There is a registry entry to force terminate all apps upon shutdown but I can't recall it right now. Someone else may know.

I'd like to know this also.

Auto end task to enable proper shutdown:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"ClearPageFileAtShutdown"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"AutoEndTasks"="1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l]
"WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="1000"

There ya go.. that's the one.
