Q: Hello all. I have a Linux system I just installed (Ubuntu), and my first machine a Windows XP system. I have no right KVM. Is there a way to get my Linux system to operate using a freeware / OSS software such as UltraVNC or using SSH or something? I have google, but could not really sure.
If just a list of programs that do this, I would appreciate it. They are all on the same router, and I would like something similar to Remote Desktop if it there, where I can check the system including full GUI.
Does something like this? Thanx.

Resolution:
I ” ll have to check that out. But for now, I have everything working. Just downloaded TightVNC for Windows XP on my box. Installed, and the use of the Viewer. On the Linux box, I just enabled by going to System – Preferences – Remote Desktop, and could it.
I m actually writing this on the Linux box via VNC. But it is a bit laggy. This was fun to get up, Ill have to see what other programs there that I could use that can be faster.
(As noted above, perhaps FreeNX.)
Thanx for the help everyone. 977,503 ——————————————-

OpenSSH trumps them all.

Re:OpenSSH trumps them all.
Re:You could try FreeNX, it's supposedly less bandwidth hungry than VNC.
Re:cached (http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:oCNVrC8mgQ8J:ubuntuguide.org/+vnc+for+ubuntu&hl=en) link. Think it goes over what you are looking for. You should be able to install vnc on a windows or linux host and be presented with the same sort of desktop view.
Re:So, would TightVNC be ok? I'm really not sure as to which clients have both a Linux/Windows client, and if I can just use the same app to do both the server and client issue.
Links to what I need would be most appreciated.

Re:VNC would work
I would tell you to use Putty and ssh in. You don't get GUI, but that's ok. Then you can just init 3 and have a faster box.
