CPU temperature AMD Thunderbird 950 MHz [temperature amd] [asus a7v]

Q: Hi,

Im using an with BIOS 1003. Asus Probe and MBM 140 reads degrees/60 C for my CPU. My CPU is loaded 100 percent (RC5) 0.

Is this an acceptable temperature? It runs for 20 hours each time and it is very stable so far. So, I think it is OK, but Im not sure

Best Answer: Max load temp should be around 65C- 70C.

Re:This might sound stupid, but did you remove the tape from the compound on the heatsink. And what heatsink are you using?

Re:guy: Clocking your bus up has it's advantages over a multiplier increase. As long as you are stable it's a pretty good idea. It increases other speeds as well (agp, pci, ram etc..) and don't forget the virtual ddr fsb – if you're running 107FSB you've got 214 effective.

Once you get that high in cpu clock those other things become more important. For example, a system running at 945 (9×105) will beat out a system running at 950 (9.5 x 100)

(I could be absolutely wrong about all of this, but I am under this impression)

Re:Way To hot….
My TBird 1ghz is areoung 100 acording to probe & mbm & you can also check the temp in the bois. & What heatsink are you running?

Re:You must have a pretty crappy HSF I would think. Read my sig, it says it all. Using an Alpha7HO HSF.

gl

the 46 is under load. Sometimes on a real hot day when sys temp hits 30 it will get to 48, but that is runing RC5 24/7

Re:Since you've got the A7V why not change the multiplier instead of running the other components out of spec at 105FSB just for a 50mhz increase?

I'd spend the $30 for an Alpha and you should be able to get full load temps down to about 115F.

I've got a TB800 @950 1.85V that tops out at 105F under full load, I think that's about 41C if I'm not mistaken.

Tornado 1000 case and black label Delta fan on the Alpha. Is that an airplane taking off I hear? Oh, that's just my computer running.

Re:what is the highest u can overclock???
i have my tbird 900 at 1050 and it runs 51c-55c
and when its at 900, it runs 47c-51c
i think the max i can OC is 1050, whats urs

Re:I found the problem !

The core voltage was set at 1.84 V, way to high. I set it to 1.65 V, and the temp dropped to 52-53 degrees Celcius, much more acceptable.

Now, I'm overclocked my 950 to 997.5 Mhz (FSB = 105 Mhz), and temperature still lower (58 degrees Celcius) than before at a lower speed…

Thank you for your replies !

Re:Thanks for your answers !

It's not overclocked yet, it's a native 950 Mhz CPU, default running at 958 Mhz.

Re:Sounds too hot to me. From reading through posts here it seems that you don't want to be much over 120F loaded and want to shoot for 108-115F under load if possible with a better cooling solution. Unless you REALLY REALLY need the extra horsepower I would not reccommend running it that hot.

Re:Too high, look for better cooling.
