Q: I recentley bought a Cruzer Micro 512 staples. Problem is that it just show in explorer, except in the Control Panel. I do I really accessible?
Re:An update…
I've just sold my 1GB LexarSport and am using a 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro. No change. It still doesn't show up in My Computer or Explorer. There's got to be a "switch" somewhere I can flip to have these show again. I just can't find it.
Any input would be appreciated.

Re:guy
Are you running Win98? You need to install drivers if you do.
(Don't laugh about asking about 98. I have to help 3 people with this in the last year.)
Re:Yep. Any mapped drives will stay accessible untill I unmap them (or bring down the network, obviously). Same with the thumb drive. If it's in and I restart, it will be accessible, but only if I "Run" it. Also, I'm not sure if I've mentioned it already, but I have tried forcing "My Computer" to refresh, no go.
To be quite honest, I've REALLY tweaked this Windows install. A lot of little registry changes, ie. "Start Button" shows the name of my business instead of "Start", Hidden user accounts that do not show up if I change the initial logon screen to the icon view, etc. It is likely that there is a registry change that hides mapped drives and such. Though, if I'm not mistaken, the flash drive would appear under "Devices with Removabel Storage" in "My Computer". If that's the case, then I shouldn't be seeing my Floppy and Opticals. Am I wrong?
Any insite is welcome.
Thanks again,

Re:guy – You can right click on My Computer and go to Manage. Then click on Disk Management and see if your usb thumb drive is listed. If it is, it should show a drive letter. You may need to change the drive letter, if the drive letter is already in use by another drive (right click the drive and choose change drive letter and paths). If it doesn't show in the Disk Management list at all, then it doesn't sound like the PC is detecting it properly.
guy – I'm not sure, that's a wierd issue. It would sound like the PC isn't refreshing the My Computer items when new drives are connected. Are the drives mapped persistently (ie, if you reboot can you still access them without remapping them?).
Re:I have a similar situation… figured I'd post here rather than start a new thread.
Background information
Operating System:
Windows XP Pro
Drives that are always available:
Floppy (A), Boot Drive (C), DVD-ROM (D), DVD Burner (E), Slave Drive (partitioned into F and G)
My Issue
I have a flash drive (Lexar 1 GB Sport) that had worked fine in the past. I would plug it into any PC and it would show as a removable drive in "My Computer" or explorer. In addtion, I have had network drives mapped in the past and they, too, would display fine. None of those previously setup network drives are mapped anymore.
Now, if I map a drive or insert my flash drive, neither case will create an icon for the drive in My Computer or explorer. However, the drives are accessible through the Run command. I know the flash drive gets assigned H:, so I can simply "Run H:" and it opens fine. Same with mapped drives.
Interestingly, the mapped drives do appear when I go to "Disconnect Network Drive…". And the flash drive will appear in the "Device Manager" under "Disk drives". It will also display in the "Computer Management" console under "Removable Storage" -> "Media", as well as "Removable Storage" -> "Storage".
I have "funked" with the flash drive some when I was trying to find a way to partition it. Yet, it will display as it should on a clean windows install (shows up in "My Computer" and all). So, I have obviously not disabled it's ability to be displayed.
Although, it's not crucial that these drive appear in My Computer, I will be setting up a file server soon and would hate to tell my wife, "Well, you can get to it, but you need to go to 'Run…', type in the drive letter, and then browse for your file. She just wouldn't dig that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty much out of ideas (and out of phrases to throw into Google.)
Thanks in advance,
–Kris
Re:Make sure you don't have any other drives taking up the default drive letter of the USB stick, it's usually F, if there is something try right clicking on it and click disconect and then see if your stick shows up.
Re:Can you try it on another pc to see if it works properly ? ?
It should just show as Removable Drive in Windows Explorer
probably as letter "E" if all you have is a HDD & CD Drive as C & D
Make sure you wait a few seconds after you plug it into the USB
port before you try to access it … or it could just be defective
