Desktop shortcuts stop working [desktop shortcuts] [global ops]

Q: Ok Im using Windows 2000 and all of a sudden my I have for games have stopped working, tried reinstalling software but to no avail the two games are Madden 2k2 and both desktop shorcut refuse to work. even if I go to the folder they just work from the start menu, work but not very strange. Anyone have any shortcuts ideas.

Yes i can start programs, but this is not the point, because I have a shorcut of application. Exe, so I can run in a window.

Best Answer: When you double-click on one of the shortcuts, does windows go looking for the application?

Keep in mind that a shortcut is mearly an icon link to the actual program… so if the program has been moved (e.g. c:\x1 to d:\x1), you will need to update the shortcut to point to the new location. Do this by right-clicking on the shortcut icon, going to properties, and edit the TARGET.

Re:You do not have to reinstall your games or other programs.

What I do is delete the desktop shortcut icon. Then using Explorer I recreate a new icon for the program. Then you can set your hot keys and they should work OK.

Just did the today for one program where an unfriend deleted my desktop icon with the hot keys. Recreating a new shortcut icon now works.

Create the new icon before deleting the old one just in case.
