Desperate times call for desperate measures: help with my network! [wireless cable router] [desperate times call for desperate measures]

Q: Ive (finally), but broadband (cable Earthlink) again, and I try to route through my network. I have a Speed Stream 2624 , a cable modem, Toshiba, 2 laptops with wireless cards, and a computer connected to the LAN of the router. The cable is connected to port 1, with the uplink enabled.

I do not know what I did wrong, but the internet works on my desktop but not one of my wireless computers (or laptop). What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it? Thanks!

Re:If you don't use your router's WAN port, you will be pullign 3 IPS from your ISP. You probrably can only have one at a time, so that may be why you are getting only one computer to work.

You need to use the WAN port

Then you need your computers' IP address to be DHCP. This should pull an IP from the router, unless its DHCP server is off for some reason. If this is the case, most routers have a serial port with which you can communicate with the router to turn on the DHCP server. RTM (Read the manual)

Re:Make sure you are getting an IP from the router. Do a release/renew on your machines.

Do I have to restart the router or anything? It's still unworking

Re:OK, I Have put the MAC address in (from this computer to the router) and plugged the cable modem into the router's WAN port. I'm guessing MAC address is the "physical address" in the local area connection's properties thing

Re:Some cable companies authenticate by MAC address. Get the MAC address from the machine that works, and on the router there should be a place to insert that MAC address to spoof it. Once the new MAC address is associated with the WAN link, put all your machine behind the router and you should be good to go. ;)

make sure u have the drivers for the cards installed.

Go into the router config and turn off WEP and MAC filtering to at least get it to work, then we can go from there.

Make sure the ip's in the comps with cards have it set to obtain IP by DHCP and you have DHCP config'd on the router.

Oh, the cable modem should be connected to the WAN port on the router, not one of the LAN ports.
That could very well be your problem right there.

I tried using the WAN port on the router.
When I do this, the LANned computer stops working, and this doesn't help the wireless connections either. I have it in the uplink on the router, and it seems to work for this computer

Can someone run me through what I would need to do from SCRATCH if all I had was a cable modem, 2 wireless cards, and one wired comp?
I think the guys got a mac address when they came over to install.

Re:WEP is already off, but MAC address filtering…well, I dunno, I searched all the options, nothing even close except "MAC Address" and "URL Filtering"

Both are untouched
