Q: My girlfriend computer connects to the Internet via dial-up, then disconnected after like 45 seconds. it says “connected at 41.5kbps, but not sending or receiving data. I have never given, what would the problem?

Re:Smells like a noisy phone line or a bad modem. Plug a phone into the pass-through jack on her computer and see if there's any crackling or static on the line. This can be caused by moisture in the phone box or in a wire splice, or corroded contacts somewhere. Might be in the house or on the pole.
