Disk imaging software recommendations? [disk imaging software] [software recommendations]

Q: I want a good disk imaging program to get, preferably one that will save on HD, CD and DVD. I am aware of Ghost, but I would like to know what other options out there. I do not mind paying for my software, but if there is a freeware product that is excellent, I am willing to try well.

Note: A search here for “ emerged nada.

Thanks!

Best Answer: I'm not much of a gamer… I think Alcohol 120% is a good app for that kind of thing and comes with a virtual drive to mount your images on. http://www.alcohol-software.com/

I use it for making copies of software disks I think might be protected and it hasn't failed me yet. Also play a couple bootleg game images on the virtual drive very occasionally.

They downplay the decrypting / copy protection capabilities of the app. They've already been forced to kill some of it's abilities with some video DVDs. But, that's really what this app does well. I know it was popular with gamers awhile back when I got it. Not sure if there's something newer and better out there now… possibly even free…

Download a torrent and see if it works for you…

Re:Acronis TI9 does SATA, Firewire, USB, etc. It can do it between any of them. In TI, SATA drives are ID'd as SCSI, but it is accurate. That is because they derive from SCSI.

Re:Can all these programs mention support SATA drives?
I need to make an image of a ATA drive to a new SATA drive?

[Q So the question is, is the current build flawless? As flawless as the users are. Most "borkers have had headspace problems.

Actually, that is touted as a "New" update in the newly separated "Home" and "Enterprise" editions. At $49.95. the home edition of TI9 is a ganga deal.

Re:I have been using True Image Workstation for several months. And I believe its a great imaging software (y)

IMHO, the best out there today is Acronis' TrueImage 9.0.

Re:Haven't tried to image to DVD yet. But is any piece of software, "flawless"? :)

Re:Welp, the "feature" to image to DVD not already pre-formatted with UDF was only introduced recently and even then it was borked and users were reporting all kinds of issues which, as I recall, were still not all corrected in subsequent builds. So the question is, is the current build flawless?

Has DVD functionality been fixed yet?

Not sure what you mean by that. Are you asking if it can image directly to a DVD burner? I believe Build 3567 can do that.

Re:Has DVD functionality been fixed yet?

Re:Thanks for the inputs. Based on suggestions here and elsewhere, I've gone with Acronis. The interface is certainly clean; DVD imaging tonight or tomorrow.

Re:Acronis has been dodgy with DVD… check their user forums for feedback on latest builds.

Re:The good options are Ghost and Trueimage but DriveImage XML also works.

If you want ISO files of DVD's/CD's you can use Alcohol 120%

Re:Second to driveimage xml. Make the BartPE disk so you can image your primary OS partition. Can't beat the price and works fine.

Re:DriveImage XML (http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm) (freeware)
