do not see * all * of the Internet from within my network [nslookup] [network internet]

Q: I have 2 PCs.

A = win2k connected to my DSL connection, two network cards, one for DSL, one to switch.
B = win2k, one NIC to the switch, it gets IP through DHCP from A.

I have no trouble seeing outside my network (Internet) with A. With B, I have no problems, except for web traffic. In B, some sites have no problems. Some sites will let me into their home page and got a timeout when I try all the links within the site. Some sites are simply unattainable. When I try an , I can the IP address of a site B, including one I can not see on the web. Any ideas?

Best Answer: 64 bit os has had some driver issues. You need to be SURE you have driver version 6.2! You have 6.190 That has a problem!

Get the 6.2 drivers and you should work.
See this forum. – it also has a link for a working driver
http://www.fixya.com/support/t558227-rea…

If that link doesn't work use this one
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/down…

Driver date 2008/11/26 much newer than what you have.
It really is a driver problem.

Re:You mean something like " See the wire …..be the wire…..feel the traffic flowing …..metally clock the bits …. count off the bit-times….."

I dunno. I just know the one time I try that stuff, I'm gonna be talking (anonymously) with the likes of Perlman, Comer, Spidey-in-disguise….

Besides, my "fluff" skills have been lacking lately.

(I've been reading up on PHP & web stuff … the shotglass is overflowing…)

A lucky guess….Awwww man…
You SO had to opportunity to really lay it on thick right there.
Coulda spewed out some positively MAJESTIC Super-Star-Trek-Ultra-jedi mumbo jumbo about how you are "one with the cosmos" and all that jazz.

Scott…I'm truly disappointed with your BTWB skillz. :D

Re:A lucky guess….

One of the support guys I work with (which soon became a couple guys as the question got passed around) had a similar issue come in from one of our customers. Some proxy processes have a problem with large / full-size frames. It sounded familiar … I took a shot.

I believe I heard about it from "EasyE" / Erick who shows up here from time-to-time. Me, Erick/EasyE, and Doug/L3Guy all work together in the same department. Mobley99/ Dave used to work there too, but he escaped…..
:D

Glad it worked.

If your MTU (maximum transfer unit) is set too large, then IP datagrams are either fragmented/segmented or discarded, depending on how routers upstream from you are configured.

This page (http://www.erg.abdn.ac.uk/users/gorry/course/inet-pages/mtu.html) lays out MTU pretty well.

Cool! Thanks for the link… learn something new everyday :D
