do not see how advertising while surfing? [internet hookup] [myspace]

Q: Just reformatted before . It was as if I was not seeing so much of the jumping flash waving kind advertising

now after new xp install and have installed new flash and God knows what else the advertising is bad enough Im thinking about canceling my internet connection. Sites like Yahoo and are the worst, but it seems like most all the sites now use this junk.

if I disable the flash and other things most sites seem not to work right, but Im not sure I have the same combination of settings I have had in the internet options etc tools I had previously. X is actively involved in this mess?

Can institutions suggest someone or something you do not get so much publicity?

Best Answer: Don't buy the software your computer is telling you to buy. Sometimes they make software that comes with your virus, so you can spend money on their software, but then it won't fix your computer, they will just steal your money.

Download this antivirus, it's free!! I have it, and it's the best!! It is called, Search and Destroy Bot

You can also clean up your computer with this free software: CCleaner

Good luck!

Re:Individual adservers or ads need to be blocked, ie, your Adblock installation needs to be "trained" as to which page elements are to be displayed, and which aren't.

Quick way:
Download this filter file (http://www.pierceive.com/filtersetg/2007-01-27a.txt). It's a 6KB text file. Or search Google for other Adblock filters.

In Firefox, open your Extensions window. (Ctrl+Shift+E)
Select AdblockPlus, right-click, and select Options
Under the Filters menu, select Import Filters
Find the saved text file and Open it to import it.
Click Apply/OK. Firefox might need to be restarted.

Note that I've not used that particular filterset, but it should do a fair job of blocking the biggest offenders in terms of obnoxious ads. I block sites like Doubleclick.com, Advertising.com, Doubleclick.com, atdmt.com, and numerous others like that – their only business is to display ads, and often they have really irritating ones that make me want to burn down the HQ of the advertisees, rather than buy anything from them.

Re:Ok, i installed firefox, adblock and some other stuff like suggested worked great as advertised…but then i couldn't see video on youtube, so i installed flash, now the flashing junk and animations are back.

question: can you set this up so that you can enable flash just for a particular site (like youtube) ???

Re:wow that adblockplus and the scrpit thing is awesome. I just downloaded it 2 mins ago.

Re:IE7 should have a popup blocker already.

Re:I agree with the use of Firefox + Adblockplus … very good
I also use PopUp Stopper Pro and the Google Toolbar in Firefox
So 99.9% of all popups, etc are gone

Re:I'd have to agree with previous posts, use mozilla firefox with an ad blocker and script blocker. Done, very clean and very easy.

Re:Default Internet Explorer for browsing the internet = omg teh h0rr0r :Q
Firefox + Adblockplus = amazingly clean experience online :D

To disable blinking elements type about:config in the url bar and change the value of the preference browser.blink_allowed to false.
