Q: Hello all, Im sharing two computers using DSL with a switch and Windows Me Internet Sharing. I have a network card connected to the DSL modem and the other NIC to the hub. I also have a different network card connected to my other computer. I followed the network wizard on my win and I have the IP address 192.168.0.2 to the client computer and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, but it does still work, can someone tell me what I doing wrong? thanks .
Best Answer: I am going to guess that the first computer is set up for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) whereas the second computer is connected to the first using a hub or switch? The first computer in this scenario is called the DHCP server which will give the other it's unique IP address. If the second one fails to connect, it is because the DHCP server is not renewing it's IP address. Right click the second systems connection and go to properties. Then go to the TCP/IP tab. Select use alternate. Then copy everything from the first computer's settings to the second computer. Change the first setting by one number. Let's say that the first one is:
154.25.1.5 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 domain of 154.25.0.1 Then the second computer will need to have the first number changed to 154.25.1.25 using the same subnet mask and domain. This will force the IP without relying on the DHCP server. Other wise you will have to continually reboot the first to reset the server, then reboot the second to obtain the new IP. My site below under Network Talk has an in depth troubleshooting section. Hope this helps

Re:hmm… check if your setup match this:
Server:
IP – 192.168.0.1
Subnet – 255.255.255.0
Gateway – gateway of ISP
DNS – DNS of ISP
Client:
IP – 192.168.0.2
Subnet – 255.255.255.0
Gateway – 192.168.0.1
DNS – DNS of ISP

Re:yes i did set the gateway default, and the ip address by the host was automatically matching the ip w/ the client (win me does it automatically) and its a static ip address, and i believe sygate does not work w/ win me…any other suggestions? thanks…

Re:Itran, try sygate, i tried it recently and i was really impressed. It kicks ass, its at www.sygate.com.
I dont know if they support win ME, but u could go check. Plus they have a setup on Sygate where u dont need 2 nic on host. All you need is one nic card on each machine.
Or just get a cable/dsl router, just ordered mine today. +)

Re:did you set a default gateway? And I believe that you have to set the IP address of the system with 2 NIC's as the IP address of your DNS server in the other computer.
Hope that helps!
