DVD / CD-RW combo drive disappeared from the windows after installing MOBO drivers [combo drive] [rw combo]

Q: Hi everyone. I ran into a problem during my first attempt at building a new PC last night and I hope someone can give me one I could hand.

I my to use Windows XP Pro fully loaded . multiple restarts and everything was fine. Windows came and life was good. I then started a number of drivers that came with my equipment to load. Again, no problems. However, after I had finished loading my mobo drivers and when I rebooted the system came back up, windows would not recognize that I had a CD-DVD drive installed!

Some info
+ I can put a disc, and I can hear the machine turn up but nothing will show on screen
+ It is not in my computer or device manager
+ I have checked the cables and they all seem to have connected.
+ I did not installed any burning software yet – only the very basic things in XP (brand new fresh install) 977 503 + I have not changed nothing in my bios . It is the standard config.
+ I have not installed floppies. Only the DVD-CD drive and the S-ATA HD. Funny thing is that Windows thinks I have a floppy drive.

I “have wonder if maybe I should check the jumpers or something? (It is the default out of the box). Maybe I should do something in the bios? (If so, why did they recognize that in the first place?)

Thanks everybody, I (really) appreciate.

Best Answer: There is an easy way can help you, you should use RZ DVD Creator, it can create standard home DVD, it can convert and burn any videos to DVD(DVD+R,DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, etc.

Work well, easy to use, inexpensive, i like it, and i believe that once you try it, you will like it too.

Following is a step by step guide:

Hope it can help you.

Re:Ok, problem solved!

I removed the drive and set its jumper to be cable select and then restarted. Bios finally recognized it and now windows is happy with it too.

Re:I will look in a few… thanks.

Re:Does the IDE controller show up in device manager?

You can try uninstalling the controllers from device manager and letting XP redetect them.

Re:First of all, thanks for the response.

No restore point that i know of. I'm open to wiping everything and starting over but i'm hoping maybe there is another recourse? Any way to determine definitively if it is the IDE controlers?

I should also mention that there is a 15 second delay during start up before i can see the Windows XP screen with the status bar thing. The screen is just blank. Don't know if that may have anything to do with it at all but figured i'd mention it.

Re:Something toasted the ide controller drivers. The first set of drivers to load after the basic win installation is the mb set. Then directx, vid card, other drivers. You may have to wipe the installation and start over unless there is a restore point from before you started loading drivers.
