E-mail addresses case sensitive? [rfc] [email addresses]

Q: Does anyone know if e-mail addresses case sensitive? Is there an that let me know for sure?

Re:From the SMTP (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc821.html):

Commands and replies are not case sensitive. That is, a command or
reply word may be upper case, lower case, or any mixture of upper and
lower case. Note that this is not true of mailbox user names. For
some hosts the user name is case sensitive, and SMTP implementations
must take case to preserve the case of user names as they appear in
mailbox arguments. Host names are not case sensitive.

Re:<< No…absolutely NO. :) >>

Is that from your experience or is there a paper or anything that will back that up?

I'm not saying I don't believe you, my experiences say it's not case sensitive either. But I want to be 100% sure.

Re:No…absolutely NO. :)

Re:ace007, from my experience, no, they are not case sensitive, I too use only lowercase as it's one step to hit the CAPS LOCK key. Maybe I'm just a lazy person :)

Re:They were at one time, but I don't believe they are any longer. Just as an old habit, I always use lowercase for them inspite of what AOL users post! :)
